Went to Willard for the first time this year. Actually it's really the first time I've ever fished that lake. The last time I went I had just purchased a boat with a friend and we had been out 5 minutes and the motor seized. To say the least this trip was far more successful than the last.
Jiggy Justin and I hit the water about 4:00 pm on Friday May 6th. Water temp was about 57.5 with a nice wind out of the south. We started out trolling (2.2 mph) the north shoreline and right off the bat I hit 2.5 lbs catfish on a green and white crank??? We quickly switched to casting off shore but went the next 3 hours without any success. About 30 mins prior to dusk we started trolling again and from that point on we had a fish on about ever 20 - 30 mines with an average size of about 4.5 lbs with the big one coming in at 6 lbs. I had never caught a wiper before and it was a lot of fun... I owe a big thanks to the guys at fish tech for setting me up with the right gear for the trip.
I have been fishing most of my life with little or no knowledge of how to fish. I have always had great success until I started fishing from a boat and for fish other than trout. I’m finally catching on to the strategy and timing that are critical for catching different species and catching the bigger fish. Who new that I needed a degree in fish psychology in order to land a fish!
I have attached some pics of the days catch. (Jiggy Justin hit a really nice Carp)
