Headed out today with one of my fishing buddies to chase some kitties. I wasn't sure how it would be since the sun was playing peek-a-boo most of the day. When we got on the water, it was really nice. Anchored up at the first spot and boom - kittie on. She ended up being about 20-inches. Just right for eating. Then before you know it, my other rod's line was swimming away. Had a fun little fight and landed an ugly old carp. Moved to a different spot and anchored up again. I caught a smaller kittie, then Nate hooked up with a nice one that gave him a good fight. We caught 4 more. Ended up taking 4 home and releasing 3 really nice ones. It ended up being much better than I figured it would be. I will be back out for more, and am ready for this warmer weather. And I need to go get a freaking scale. [Wink]

Looks like a very successful outing! Nice fish and photos.

Nice report and nice fish, headed up there tomorrow, or Friday.

Nice cats!
Too bad you had to touch that carp. Its a shame, ruining a perfectly good glove like that [Wink]

Dude - you are SO schooling me! All I could find was mudbuggers. Did filet up a carp about like that one. Fresh strips! Sounds like the Crawdad is getting you out to some fish!
So what were you using? Worms, carp? I've tried dragging bottom bouncers, or trolling sideplaners, but I've only ever caught anything out there when anchored.
I'm pretty sure I'm taking Friday off to do some chores, then hit some water. Or the other way around.

Seems like today and tomorrow are bound for warm and sun. Bring it on!!
Nice job that looks like fun. Wish I liked eating catfish but growing up on the east banks of where you were fishing I never appreciated them and I think I have to go elsewhere to catch fish. They sure are a fun tug though. Guess I ought to stay home and fish it would be a lot easier.

Nice Job! It's amazing how fast you and lavaman learned to catch those cats out there. A few weeks ago ya couldn't catch a darn thing and now look at you guys reelin em in. Man I sure hope to run in to you guys out there, maybe you can give me some tips.

That is pretty funny to me.[Wink] I am sure we will run into each other soon enough. Green Coleman Crawdad and I will have on the crimson and white Alabama hat. Won't fish without it. I plan on heading back out there over the next few days. I hope to fish as much as I can before I head off for work this summer on the 23rd.

It's all luck- anyone can catch those big kitties. And now I've figured it out: Ben always shows me up because of that dang Alabama Cap. Maybe I should exchange my Cabelas Cap.

Planning on hitting it again this weekend. Hopefully we'll run into you.

Those look like some nice fillets, Ben. Good job.

Nice haul, do you use a fish finder to locate a certain place to fish or do you just know the area?

I guess you could sense the sarcasm. I do have to thank you though, without you and lava I never would have learnd to keep my mouth, or fingers in this case shut. And a heads up to the rest of you BFT'rs, if you get PM'd by these guys just erase it cause any info you give will be exploited with no thanks at all!

BURN!!!

Dude! I do thank you for the info you gave. But I do have to say the areas I fished and caught these and the ones last week weren't where you suggested for me to go. No exploitation here. I am just a dude trying to have a little fun on the water. And those spots were spots shared with me by another fellow BFT'er who gave me some pointers after last ice season when I shared some with him.

I did have a fish finder, but used it just for depth. The deepest I was fishing in was 2 feet of water, so my fish finder really wouldn't do much for showing any fish there. I just went in the direction that another buddy suggested, thought "this spot looks good," and tried my luck and succeeded. I don't know the area well enough to say "there is a fish there." For me, I just throw the line out when I think it looks like a good spot. That's how I fished in Bama!

And Roll Tide - back at ya!

I ain't mad it's my own fault. I've just spent a lot of my time out there figuring the cats out and I just hate to see those areas turn into the bridges. There are big cats out there for a reason, 1 cause nobody fishes it and 2 because the big ones get let go. I don't blame ya for wanting some cats there addicting as hell, and you went out and caught em wich I comend you for but a little credit where it's due goes a long way espically when your talking about where, when and how to catch what your after. Good luck to ya out there just try to save some for seed, espically this time of year.

I hear ya. I kept that one bigger one last week, but probably should have let her go. I have still yet to catch one where you pointed me to, so don't know what my deal is with that.[Wink] But I do appreciate the advice you have passed on, and sorry if it seemed as if it was taken for granted. Didn't intend that at all.

Ya know Curt - it is so danged murky up there with all the carp wallowing around and stirring up the mud - I've found my fishfinder pretty worthless out there. And it's so shallow most places - I pick up a lot of turbidity, and not much else.
I do use it for depth reference. Could be my finder's crappy...
Done lots of "exploring" of the area with Google maps and Mapquest. Just need to get more 'in person' time.

Lucky hat eh Ben? Doesn't that pink clash with the green? Course maybe that's what it takes to bring 'em in. Works for Ninjasets on the bass with his flashy shorts!

Catmaster - maybe you're just missing that Powell adventuring. Tell ya what - pm me some top secret info, and I'll be sure to give you all the credit for my catching. Hey - I'll even name the fish after ya.
Of note: The post doesn't even name the body of water (though I think we all know where it is...). Plus - as he states, and I know Lavaman is a major C&R kinda guy - the big ones went back.

I won't post maps of my fav Bear spots, but be glad to talk with anyone who's willing to share techniques. Have opened a number of conversations with a lot of you BFTers - and it's been great. Hope to see ya out there!

Probably pop by "the spot" for a few this afternoon.
You screwed up. You revealed your secret weapon-the hat. I'm gonna get me one of those.

Roll Tide! [Wink] You know it! I have had that thing for years, and it's on every fishing trip I go on. Gotta be the hat!
[signature]
Ben you need to get me one of those caps!

P.S. C&R - especially with the big ones, is the way to go. Most of you guys already know that's what I do.

I tell you what coyote I'll put up a post and you cant use my pics on a seprate post you put up. I don't know why you would need my help anyway, your obviously the expert on every body of water in the state. You blab on and on about every body of water on every post and honestly you don't know much about catching fish. All you bring to the table are super long posts with pics of other peoples fish. I never tried to take credit for friends catch, just gave him and lava some good intel that's all and thought a simple thanks would be nice. And here's some top secret info for free, you actully have to go out and fish to figure out how to catch them, regurgitating others info doesn't make you a fisherman. Your Hyrum post for example, you admit to not being able to catch bass there then you proceed to explain to people where to go and how to do it, anyone who uses your advice to try and catch fish is definitly lost.
