Comes as no surprise out of Lake Havasu in Arizona.

A huge redear caught from Lake Havasu on May 2 has now been confirmed as a new Arizona State Record for along the Colorado River and it is also in contention for an IGA new world record as well.

This huge redear tipped the scales at 5.55 pounds and was 16.75 inches long with a 19-inch girth. It was caught by Robert Lawler of Lake Havasu City on May 2 using a Texas-rigged 7-inch Power Worm. This huge fish may also be a contender for a world record as well.
The existing state record redear was caught Feb. 16, 2010 at Lake Havasu by a California angler and it weighed 4 pounds 2.24 ounces and was 15.5 inches long.
Redear, also called "shell crackers," feed on quagga mussels.

That is one HUGE Redear! Believe it or not there used to be Redears in Holmes Creek Reservoir before they drained it to do repair work on the dam 10+ years ago. Too bad they're gone because I don't know of any other place in Utah where you can catch them.
they eat quagga mussels? has the dwr ever thought about putting those in sand hollow or any other infested area?

What a slab! That must have been a hoot getting it to the boat.

I caught alot of red ear while stationed in Ill. years ago and have never seen one that didn't have a red or orange trim around the edge of the dark blue gill, pretty easy to distinguish them from the blue gill. They seemed to put up a little better scrap than the blue gill. [crazy]
