I'm a college student and have done a little fishing but am interested in learning more about fly fishing. Does anyone happen to fish in the Ogden area that would be willing to give me a few pointers?

Welcome to the site Suzy, you are in luck, we have a Fly fishing board that is part of the Utah boards. I will move your port to that board, so you will be able to get some help from local anglers.

That would be awesome if you would let me know. I have fished the Ogden river a few times but haven't had much luck. Thanks!

You might check with FlyGoddess too. She's not only a great fairy-wand flinger, but a great fly tie-er, and a guide even.

Plus - I just LOVE her avatar! She gives her flies really cool names too. You'll find lots of other real helpful fly-fishers too. Lots of our tubers like to fling while they float.

Right now is gonna be a tough time on most of the rivers - while all the runoff is rushing. But with the lakes warming - should be plenty of places to go.

If you haven't you can check the DNR site for info on lakes, rivers, fish, fishing reports, stocking reports.
Welcome to ogden. There are a few things yo need to know about the odgen river. \
1. Its obviously very small so small role casts and such are very helpful.
2. In my experience the lower sections (from the Perry Camp and down) Are deeper holes and easier nymph fishing. Try a gold hairs ear nymph about 3 feet under a indicator. If the indicator does anything odd set the hook. More often than not its a fish.
3. From the Camp up is slower water. Great dry fly fishing and can be a little easier to cast. Try elk hair caddis, and attractor patterns work well. If the water slows down ever around august try big grasshopper imitations work extremely well.

4. be patient it takes a little while to learn the Ogden but once you get used to it it is an awesome fishery and is often overlooked.
