I have quite a bit of success fly fishing in the spring at several lakes across the State (Piute/Otter/Panguitch/Etc)... I have never tried Flaming Gorge, but will be trying it in about a week... the size of the Gorge is quite intimidating... any suggestions on where? or what will work there...? I prefer to just wade rather than float tube... is that possible on the Gorge...? I assume there would have to be some big Rainbows cruising the rocky points...? Thanks in advance for any advice... Big Prince Nymphs have seemed to be the ticket most places i have gone this year by running it about 5-6 feet under an indicator... Cheers... Hank...

You may want to use a sinking line and strip streamers.
My question is why the Gorge, with the Green River right there?

Fish around the mouth of Sheep Creek. You can drive right to it. You will have company, but there's always 'bows in there, sometimes very thick. A lot depends on whether or not temperatures stay cool. Warming water will push them deeper.
The river is at flood stage. Releases are wide open. Tough wade fishing right now.

People have been having great success in the past month at and around the Antelope Flat boat launch, Stateline/Lucerne/Linwood areas and Sheep Creek inlet for "spawning" rainbows. Some very impressive, up to 4 or 5 pounds. Leeches, Buggers, glo bugs, etc. I would expect the rainbows to be finishing up, but there still should be a few around those parts within reach of the wading angler. I would also be looking for some decent Smallmouth to be staging to spawn all along the rocky shores near Antelope Flat, Jug Hollow or Stateline/Lucerne/Linwood areas, easily within reach of a 30' cast. Again, buggers or any fly resembling minnows and crawdads should get it done. Mustang Ridge is another area, although with much tougher (cliff), but very do-able shoreline access.

They dropped the river back to ~4600cfs last Monday. It looks like they may drop them further (to ~2000cfs) to prevent flooding at Jensen, as the Yampa is expected to approach 20,000cfs (yes, 20 THOUSAND) later this week. After the Yampa subsides, expect flows below FG Dam to approach 9000 cfs once again. Had some friends on the river this weekend that waded up from Little Hole. Nymphing was the ticket.

All... Thanks for all the tips...I especially appreciate the feedback on locations (a lot of people are not willing to give that info)... will be floating the green on Saturday and wading it on Sunday... just wanted to try out the Gorge... have never tried it before... I can't help but think there has to be some Hogs cruising the banks right now... I will let you know how it goes... actually thinking of hitting the Berry on Friday, the Green on Saturday/Sunday and finishing up on the Gorge on Monday... Thanks again for the great Feedback...
