I see quite a few guys on here using pontoons and im finally starting to feel like I need to get one so I can save some gas instead of dragging my boat all the time. I looked at a few on Cabelas but seeing a couple hundered to a couple thousand leaves me wondering, what should I be looking at? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Was also wondering if anyone has hit up Salmon Falls here lately. Was thinking of going down and staying a couple days this next weekend for my birthday. Need to try and catch some eyes down there.

Depends are where you will be shopping and where & how you plan to use it the most. If you go to the fishing forum on this site and then to float tube fishing there is excelent info there. Often times you can search craiglist and ebvay as well

Nonxst1-I haven't been down there for a couple weeks cause of the weather but Have hearde a few stories from freinds that have and the word is SLOW!- Drag a worm harness in 12-15 ft down over a sandy borrom bay SLOWLY! About 1mph and you may hook an eye but they should be startinf soon if we get a few high pressure days in a row. Good luck.

By the way I have a boat and end up using my 8 ft. pontoon for fishing more than my boat and love it, especially for fly fishing.

I live in Poky so I have a few places close to shop at but I dont really know whats good. My buddy is telling me Bucks, Sportsmans, and water skeeters are pretty good. I dont really need a decked out one. Just plan on throwing my trolling motor from my boat on it and putting around.

For the pontoon questions you'll need to ask some questions and read the posts on the Float Tubing site. http://www.bigfishtackle.com/...at_Tube_Fishing_C66/
There is a lot of great information and helpful people to help you on there!

Whatever you decide to get, read this thread about setting an electric motor up on a pontoon. http://www.bigfishtackle.com/...d;page=unread#unread
Pontoons do NOT push with a motor. You have to set them up to be pulled by a motor. That means that you need to use the reverse on your motor or it is best to loosen the screw at the base of the motor head and turn it around.

With a motor on it, you must also licence your pontoon. [:/]

How big of a pontoon were you thinking? What would you be carrying it in?

Also from what I have heard (gossip!) Water Skeeter is gone out of business.

All I can say is we had several very nice boats, but we sold them for Pontoons because they are so much plus, I can go one way and hubby the other.
You can't go as far and as fast as you can with a motor boat, but fish ARE everywhere.

Gas Prices are a big issue these days and understandable, but with better made pontoons, you can add GAS motors.

Features that are desirable are, Aluminum frame (or stainless steel which is going to be heavier). Urethane bladder as Vinyl is very susceptible to temp and altitude plus not as durable as Urethane (but if you are only going to use it occasionally, vinyl will work) Vinyl is going to weigh more than Urethane as well. Bladderless would be the ultimate.

The outer cover is very important. PVC coated is the best. Good seams.

Then a comfortable seat.......and a lot of PVC!!!! LOL
