Hey all.

I am still in the hunt for my first ever LMB/SMB and have hit a slight roadblock.

I have done alot of research and done quite a bit of homework on finding and catching Bass. But as One wise man once said "Can't catch fish were they aint at"-Sir Dude of the Tube...

So I am hoping some of you would be kind enough to give me an idea of a body of water to get me started. I live in Farmington and for practice I'd really like to stay in the relative area as gas has me broke at the moment. I was wondering if any of the urban fisheries have enough of a population of bass that they would be a good starting point? I will be trying Mantua as soon as the fishing/weather picks up for the first time but would really like to at least have an idea of what I'm doing before I try it.

I am more then willing to find the fish but I have no idea where to start. Thanks a ton.!!!!

My advice would be to try Kaysville Pond when we get another couple days of warm weather. The bassin there hasn't been as it used to be before they drained it a few years back. That said I still think it's your best bet for now. Definitely go to Mantua in a week or two and you won't be disappointed. For smallmouth try East Canyon or Pineview. Also there's been some posts about bass in a small pond near the Great Salt Lake off I-80. Never been there so I don't know if it'd be worth the trip or not. I've also heard that Willard has smallmouth but don't know if it's enough to go target them specifically. I can totally relate to wanting to stay close to home right now because of gas prices and being broke. Good luck![fishon]
I know Utah Lake would be a bit of a drive for you but word on the street is hit Provo Boat Harbor with spinner baits. Once the bait hits the water reel in, not allowing the bait to drop very much. The harbor holds a lot of structure for the fish to hang out in.

Hit mantua in a couple of weeks. The fish should be biting good by then. Plastics out by the point should do it. Fish the bottom with a green plastic worm or weightless senko. Fish slow.....
