OK, got a fly rod for Christmas, done a little bit with it but really want an opportunity to get out some more. I suspect the Boise is to high to mess with.

Where does the water come from for Indian Creek? Is it a spring fed creek? Do flows have to do with snow melt? Irrigation? The State of the Union (oh, please, say it ain't so.)

I've got a little fishing kayak I'd like to take out somewhere if the water level is safe. All else failing I could try to drive out and take a look on my next day off, but thought I'd look for advice from the experienced. I hear there are some little trout in there and that's good enough for me.

this isn't even remotly a " hot tip " as this info is about 25 years old ! but as a teenager my cousin lived on indian creek. caught many a trout there. i know they used to stock it with bows' and would think they still do. i used to catch some preety nice fish 14"-16". but access is getting tough but your kayak would work great. i fished mainly by the railroad tracks in kuna . upstream and downstream. good luck

You referring to Indian Creek Reservoir east on I84 by the Stage Stop? If so, I've never heard of trout there although perhaps the state tossed some in a few years ago when they hoped the water levels would recover. It was always a prime source for bass and blue gill and cats/bullheads. I haven't been out there for awhile so don't know the water level. Friends hit it last year, wading shoreline and catching lots of small bass on lures.

Another nearby res. has done much better over the years water-wise....Black Creek Res just south of I84 on the Black Creek Road/Exit. Perch, crappie, bass and cats/bullheads. Can easily fish from shore or small boat launched from beach.

My information is about 28 years old. I used to live at the Happy Heart Arena in Kuna. As an 8-9 year old I would walk over to the creek by the elementary school and catch small stockers all the time. I remember that I called the Fish and Game to ask them if it was ok if I fished that area without my dad who had the license.[crazy]

My dad was surprised when I brought home a stringer full of small trout.

I've been to blacks creek a few times because of referrals from this group and haven't caught a thing. Last time I was there it was exceptionaly high. All the trees at the east end were covered except for the top couple feet of the tallest ones.

Indian Creek thru Kuna is supplied by the New York Canal system. It goes dry when the canals are shut down so no hold over trout. F&G does stock it during the spring and summer. I've caught small trout about 8" in length out of there. I've only fished it by the RR tracks that go thru Kuna but there are some other areas that look good further west. Blackcat Rd area looks good, too.

had open heart surgery 4 weeks ago...no fishing on my calendar for awhile. last time fished blacks creek was two years ago when perch fishing was pretty good from the bank near the dam.

Looking at Google maps, it looked like it was related to the new york canal somehow. Is that ALL that it's hooked to? I thought it still had SOME water left and there might be holdover. F&G shows that they stocked over 4000 brown trout in it last year, seems like a lot if none of them hold over.

there's actual creek flow feeding in

I might have to try it to see.

If anyone else with a kayak/canoe/pontoon/floattube(?)/anything else wants to try to hit it this coming Wednesday, let me know. My work schedule is a bit screwy and it's tough to find people to ferry back to the pickup with. Let me know if anyone's interested.

i used to catch minnows out of there but found they never caught nearly as many fish as other baits that i have found. I was down there one day and watched a guy catch a half dozen 12 inch trout this was last year. And he said lots of trout in the canal but they are not good to eat. probably what the fish think about the minnows out of there. no good.

Thanks, that's good to know.
