Does anyone have a report from the opening day combat. I didn't go up,Only about the second time in 20 years. I talked to Ironrod at about 11am, He said it was nuts, 200 or so folks at the State dock area, He said it was cold. I figured as much. I was thinking about going up in the morning or riding it out until Tuesday or Wednesday.

Well made it up for my first time ever...... totally different fishing than I have ever done! Was weird having people chatting with you 10 feet from you on each side of you while tossing leaches. Had a good time, lots of fish were caught me...... pulled a whole 4 out with the smallest being this guy....
It was pretty cold, water clarity was bad, early everyone was doing well on black leach patterns, then it tappered off and they did really well on chrinomids. We fished at the county docks and it wasn't too bad at all.
Lots of first for me. Def. a learning experience for me, headed back monday .

Tuff day of fishing Henry's . Henry's won round 1. We're going to try still fishing from the boat tomorrow. I will post pictures when I can. State boat ramp was crazy.

5 brookies from 1 /12 to 2 1/2 lbs and 2 average hybrids. The other 6 with me caught 12.
It was cool but not bad. I have fished in a blizzard before so the weather was ok. But not like 15 + years ago it was 70 degrees and short sleeves. The brooks were full of scuds.

I worked til 630 pm and got on the water about 730. Fished til around 1030 and caught fish the whole time. Fished into the dark for a while and had the whole lake to ourselvrs. Landed about 30, lost a bunch more. Biggest was around 23". Fished an olive leech most of the time. Looking forward to going up tuesday again

The weather forecast for the weekend kept a lot of people home. Glad you went and had a good time!

thanks, considering the option this weekend it was, blkft res. birch or henrys. And the roomates entire family has a tradition of camping and fishing up there on the opener so I figured I would jump in with them so I could pick their brains. Not sure I would be come a junky like alot of the Henry's addicts but its a neat experience. But for the next 3 weeks until rivers are an option, that is probably the place Ill be come saturday mornings for the next month or so.

My Dad and I made it up there for a few hours Saturday. It was our first time up there for the opener, and probably the last. I couldn't believe all the people at the State ramp. We didn't notice any law breaking but it broke my heart to see little kids not catching any fish and grown men fishing at the ramp with state of the art equipment pulling fish after fish out of the water, while kids would ask their dad why can't we catch any. Just my opinion but I think they should reserve the ramp area for the kids. We fished West of the ramp a ways and the fishing wasn't fast and furious like at the ramp but we managed to catch some fish. Flies were the ticket, I thought worms would out fish flies so thats all we took, but the guy fishing next to us with a fly rod was catching 7 or 8 fish to our one. We didn't see any big fish caught and I was disappointed when I cleaned our fish and the meat was very pale. Here is a link to a video I took of the crowds on the ramp.

Hi, Maghunter . We went today and fished at the county dock .the sheriff told us that we could fish from the dock as long as there was no boats loading or unloading . my six year old caught a nice cut' 20"and i caught a 19". there was about 20-25 people fishing the docks, it snowed most of time we were there.we got there at 1:30pm and left 4:00pm people were all catching fish.I think the bad weather made for less people,so not so crowded

Okay, they were enforcing the no fishing from the docks, but it was okay????????
Must be the same cop that we pointed out two pontoons with motors and no plate OR invasive species stickers (out of staters) and he replied...Hum, they should have them and walked away??????
How can the enforce this if they let people do it ....sometimes? Just asking.

They were supposed to be issuing tickets for dock fishing, not encouraging it. Someone is going to get hurt and then what?

I didn't know the sheriff could give someone permission to break the law . I would like to know his name and ask his supervisor about his thoughts on this . Curt G.

Ive just decided we pay the cops up there for nothing really....for that matter most of the fish adn rec people we have. I called to ask for sure about whether or not you need the plate and the invasive species sticker in idaho if you have the motor on a pontoon and you want to know how many different answers I got. They ranged from yes to no and then alot of well technically but I doubt anyone would say anything to you anyway. I mean really what the hell kind of answer is that? Seems they are mostly out there to keep the honest people honest and the people who break the law, well they probably just shouldnt do that. Kinda crap in my opinion.

I was out there Sunday when the sheriff let us fish off the dock. The weather was so bad, there was only a couple of boats out on the lake and when the boats came back in, everybody either got off the dock or stopped fishing. There as a huge school of fish right on the ramp for some reason so it was nice of him to allow this. I understand not wanting to give people the wrong impression about fishing off of the dock. But it just seemed like a nice thing for him to do on a very cold, wet and windy day.

That would be comparable to a cop telling you to speed if you don't see many cars out on the highway . . .

Yeah, exactly the same thing. They both could result in loss of life, but the difference is, speeding = human life; fishing from dock=trout death.

Nice fish
There are signs all over stating "No fishing from docks", then a paper comes out reading they are going to enforce this.
All good, and us as adults should understand this and go with it.
So why would one even ask if they can do this? If it is not allowed because of danger of any kind, or boats, then that should be all time and lack of boats shouldn't matter.
Okay, the sheriff is either an idiot, or he doesn't care, but knowing the ruling on this and still doing it? I don't get it, but no skin off my nose.

Actually the point is, you're breaking the law in both instances.
So because the cop says you can fish off dock since there's really nobody else there ( even though it's posted NO FISHING FROM DOCK) it's also ok to keep everything you catch. There's no one else there so you might as well take advantage of that too.

It's worse in bad weather with few boats out. I'm not sure how many boats you have seen sunk at the docks at Henry's but I've seen a lot in my time. I've seen boats sunk 50' from the docks because they couldn't get in as well. When the weather's bad, a boat like mine has no choice but to come in hot. A jet inboard doesn't give you a second chance when docking even on a nice day. The jet pump gives the boat a shove in the general direction you want the boat to go in and that is the last control over the boat you have. I'm a good pilot but . . . it's for your safety they don't allow people to play around on ramp docks. We all do our best but in the wind and waves it's always dicey at best. That's a 3000 lb. missile headed the direction of what ever is on the docks. Teach your kids the dangers of fishing off of boat ramps and they will be the better for it and guys in boats won't have one more thing to worry about.
