[fishin] I am new to this forum and just wanted to say hello to everybody out there......
I live in the Boise Idaho area born here but spent most of my life in Central NY I enjoy all types of fishing and for all types of fish... Living where I did in NY there were alot of carp tournaments being held so needless to say I got hooked into carpin. A lot of guys out there say carp???? ewe trash fish when truth be known america is the ONLY country in the world that consider carp as trash fish. When I head out to go fishing just to FISH just for sport and not for food I have to say I go after carp strictly catch and RELEASE and I LOVE it they are a great fighting fish no matter what size they are and if you like to take your kids fishing chances are you if you can get them in a school of feeding carp you will get them hooked for life. I fish with all euro gear but anybody with a rod and a can of sweet corn can get hooked into some trophy sized fish... Good luck to you all out there and tight lines[cool]

Welcome to Idaho and good fishing. All large fish are fun to catch and nothing wrong with catching carp. Good thing you mentioned that you don't eat them...there are a few on this forum that would take great offense at the thought of killing and eating a fish...of any type.[

] I'm not one of them. Mike

Good to have you posting. Carp are a blast on a fly rod! They are also a very challenging fish to catch.

Thanks to you all for the warm welcome. It is nice to see that some people have opened their mind to the potential that carp have as a sport fish here in the US. Over seas carp are like gold.
I am all about fishing all types of fish but if I am not fishing for food and Im just out for fun I gotta say I am after carp.
If anybody has any good spots that you have seen some big carp please let me know. I wouldnt mind meeting up with somebody and showing you how they are fished for over seas....[fishin]

I'm not in the Boise area, but I would be willing to take a guess and say that there are carp all along the Snake River there. With the high waters that are flowing in the Snake I would imagine you can catch carp in any of the fields next to the river. They are probably out grazing with the cows!!!! Carp are really fun to catch. Never been able to catch them if I'm trying but hook a few on accident while cat fishing.

There are also lots of carp in Lake Lowell, but if the USFWS has their way, you won't be able to fish or bow fish for them in the future, as all shallows they frequent will be closed to access.

Windriver I wouldnt call myself a expert at anything The euro style and carp fishing in general are growing by leaps and bounds in fact The world carp tournament is being held in upstate NY on the St.Lawerence river with prize money OVER $100,000.00 people will come from all over the world to fish it...
Smartweed yes there are carp all up and down the snake I just want to try and find some easy access slackwaters where there will be some big water pigs.
I have also fished a few times at lake Lowell there doesnt seem to be a lot of good bank access I have only fished off the wall at the west end. I was able to land several small fish but I know there are some BIG fish in there....

Do you take a maggot slingshot with you when you fish? Do you make boiles?
[signature]
I have yet to try maggots but I have heard they work wonders. I do make my own boilies and they have worked well for me so far. I would assume that you know a few things about carp fishing if you know what a boilie is lol..[fishin]
[signature]
I've also heard of boilies. Are they difficult to make on your own? Do they work that much better than worms or corn?
[signature]
They arent to hard to make a bit time consuming but not to hard. There are several videos on youtube of people making them. I could give you a easy recipe if you want to give them a try. I have never caught a carp on worms but I have heard of alot of people catching on them. Boilies can work great and other times not so good corn is a all time go to bait. there are several companys in the us that are carp specific try www.bigcarptackle.com they have everything bait tackle everything. also there is K1baits www.scorpiontackle.com www.resistancetackle.com and check out carpanglersgroup.com
Shoot me a email at idahocarpin@yahoo.com if you want any recipes

Thanks for the information. I catch most of my carp on nightcrawlers. I've tried corn with no great results and have wondered if my presentation is all wrong. I'll shoot you an email to get some more info on recipes and other carp fishing techniques.
I'm not sure if anyone is catching large carp or not, but I have caught some good sized carp out of the Narrows this year. Largest was just over 28 inches and a little over 10 lbs.

If you don't mind the cost of an Oregon license or 3 day permit you will find some real hogs in Bully Creek west of Vale. Still a little cool there but when it warms up.....Mike
