Does anyone know anything about the Escalante river or Calf Creek falls in southern utah? What kind of fish are there? Tactics? Any help would be appreciated. I will also be hitting Tropic Reservoir if you guys have any ideas.

THANKS.

Was there a couple years ago, nice stream with browns rainbow and cuthroat. There is also a couple lakes just outside boulder with a pumphouse in the lower one. Ask the locals for directions. My kids had alot of fun there.

I haven't fished Calf Creek for quite a few years, but there were lots and lots of smaller browns and a few cuts. The water is very shallow and clear, so you need to be stealthy as the fish were spooky, but it's a fun stream to fish with amazing scenery. I remember some pretty good caddis hatches in the evening, and terrestrials were very effective.

I tried the Escalante one evening for an hour or two. It wasn't as productive, but I did catch a couple, including a pretty nice cuttbow.

Hey thanks for the pointers! Any more tactics that will work? What about spinners or plastics?

I'm sure small spinners would work very well. I also fished it years and years ago back in high school with a spinning rod and did well with small dark colored marabou jigs.

As has been said lots of smaller browns, we did foamy dries with a bead head dropper. Fun little river to fish but stealth is required.
