the crappie bite was still on regardless of the colder weather. our fish finder went out so we started targeting submerged willows. managed 110 for the day. we did have to work for them in the morning. afternoon fishing picked up nicely though. wonder how strike fished this weekend? anyone know?

Great, but that looks like a lot of work ahead for filleting!!

two of us on our electric knives had it done in an hour. those little morsels are worth the time in my opinion[Wink]

They are indeed. I am having serious crappy envy!!

In fact I think I have a bad case of the "cabin blues"!!! Come on better weather and lower run off!

Got home this afternoon...spent 3 days at Owyhee.. fishing about 7 or 8 hours each day.. We managed about 130 crappie each day while also targeting bass. We found good numbers of fish up near the airport and some in dry-creek as well.

My hands are chewed up and Im tired of filleting fish - I can assure you that... I think I need to find an electric knife before catching another 400 crappie over a weekend.

you can pick up a black & decker slice right for $9.86 or a hamilton beach for $18.88...both at walmart. we used one of each this weekend. the black & decker has a better trigger, but they both fillet awesome...and they are carving knives!! trust me, i've used electric rapalas and kershaws, and the b&d actually does a lot better job. i'll never own anything else. been using one for about 3 years now. for $10, it's worth trying. if you dont like it, you didnt break the bank.

Hey - thanks for the tip... Ill have to ask for one of those for fathers day then. Ive always used a regular old fillet knife - hopefully I wont cut through the back bone on the first 20 trying to get the hang of it. Wink

BTW, anyone have any luck recently with Bass out there? Im getting the occasional one but would like to do better if possible seeing as my son and I are fishing a tourney this weekend. I had a guy tell me white chatter baits in treed areas was working but I never had time to give that a try...

Fished Owyhee again today (third Saturday in a row). Fished a tourney so we were not targeting Crappie at all - although we managed to hook about 10 Crappie on bass gear. Bass fishing was slow and we had to work hard for what we had... Finished 2nd thanks to a decent fish my 12 year old partner (son) landed.

We are headed back tomorrow with my wife to find Crappie.

nice fish. you did better than us. we only managed 2 smallies a few crappie and a trout on bass gear. the wind kinda sucked. my tourney buddy said they only had a limit of small keepers. we were going to go to brownlee but he heard all the rumors about it sucking so we went to owyhee. waste of money for us. ill just keep going to strike on non windy days

superb fish ! what bait did he use ?

^Thanks...
He caught it on a white Chatter bait... FWIW spinner baits and buzz baits worked well for me and I guess several other guys caught most of their weight on spinner baits as well.

We fished again yesterday for meat... fished from about 8AM to 2PM.. took 127 home.
