I love Browns, but enjoy cats. But the more I learn, the more I realize I have to learn. In other words, I'm enjoying any fish that teaches me something. (which is nearly all of them)

Any.
No, really any that put up a great fight. I usually don't keep fish. You know that. So that means when I go out, I just like to find a few that will run on me. Whether it's cats or bass or whatever, doesn't really matter. It was fun also this last winter chasing and having fun with the muskee.
But if I am wanting to eat some fish, I prefer perch, bluegill, bass, or catfish. So if I can find them, they are just as fun for me to catch.
Now let's go chase a few tomorrow!

Musky, musky ,and more musky! They're not the hardest fighters, but their explosiveness and occasional airborne antics are heart stopping. There's also nothing like having one follow your lure to the boat and then drill it when you've got five feet of line out. You really have to learn to keep your cool with these guys.
I also love the wipers when they're boiling. Those suckers hit like a freight train! I also like those hard fighting smallies, and the largemouth too, but don't generally target them. About the only time I like to fish for trout is when the water is too cold for the above mentioned species to be active. [:p] Fred K.

Brook trout, of coarse. Because of where they live, how well they fight, how amazing they look, and how rare and challenging large specimens are.

Those carp are fighter's but can't bring my self to eat one. Tried two times but they didn't make the fry pan.

I knew I forgot one of the popular species.
Maybe one of the Mods could edit out that nasty Carp category and replace it with Walleye?
Interesting to see the popular choices, thanks fellas.

I catch up to 20 or so species a year not counting carp of course lol, and I like them all. But if I had to choose just one of course largemouth! hahaha. It was a blast today up north.

My #1 goal this year is to meet a Walleye, but I gather that's best done by targeting any other fish - SO...
been mostly playing the cat-chasing games this spring. But turning towards bass shortly - like tomorrow am!
actually flattered as I took to water - feller asked if I was after Walleye - w/ my home-made bottom bouncer - beads and blades worm rigs - I wish! (did hook up a bitty kitty on it!)
The perch were awesome under ice this year - I blame you for my new ice-addiction!! A big fat brown is on the list!
Spring cats have taken over. Spring bass/gills will be next. Followed by chasing musky and wipers. Hope for some real CHASING - something about 6 - 60 HP might make a difference!
I want to try some "ice approaches" to jigging - see if those light bites can be capitalized on! Might even try ice rigs, spring bobbers - ice jigs. Crappie, oh Crappie....
Wipers and Muskie are top of the "list" but Walleye tops it. Have met some Crappie, and hope to meet more!
Sometime this year a UL trip for White Bass has got to happen for the kids Maybe visit the Tube-orium on the way. Worth a camp-over.
Kid wants to try Yuba 4 pike ! We'll see...

Smallmouth would have to top my list, though there are way more largemouth places around here, so I target them more often. I enjoy them all really. After bass I probably fish streams for trout most frequently. They all get some attention from me during the year though.

Looks like "Trout" is starting to run away with it, as most favorite targeted species.
