Went out Friday afternoon- Checked out the flood conditions around Benson Church along the Bear River. Talk about swollen river!
And yes - the carp are in the flooded-fields slurping through the weeds for sure.
Was thinnin' to don some Waders and go for it, but I wonder if a pontoon might serve better! It's pretty deep out there!
Today is Carpalooza - few more honeydooes - hope to make it out. Met a couple of the planners yesterday. Sounds like fun! Cudos for you guys putting it on! Get 'em good!!!!!
Took a run to a couple of my spots - and got into some cats. Plenty of carp - and seem to be pairing off - that side-to-side stance. How sweet!
Found a wrastling 5.5lb 23" channel fattie to come dancing into my net (finally - she worked it good! Drag, oh drag.). Found an 8" mudder trying to steal my bait! Hooked up to another goodie - but on hookset - the line wrapped my pole, - no reeling, no drag. Of course - THEN 'e takes a run for it - right under a log I was fishing behind. Maybe lucky for me - snagged on a rope - and broke off - before my "pole-bend" turned into "pole-broke"! It was a fast hard - determined run.
Got to dragging the bottom bouncer, and a surface spinner/carp rig - and I found what I thought was a snag - turn into a lil' 1-footer/1lb channel. But hey - first on the bottom bouncer in them waters for me! I'll take it (granted - may have hooked up while I was fiddling with my wiring & at standstill!!!).
Had some sweet SunDawgs near sunset. But the bite seemed to have shutdown at dusk - when I thought it woulda turned on. Hmmm - sunshine bite ????
Sunset return offered a rosy glow as I headed to the launch. Met up with more of the Carpaloosa crowd. Nice folks. Hope the event goes well (and productive!!)
