I decided to take my son fishing with me the other day. Loaded him and all our stuff up. To make things quicker I left my fly rods in the rod holders in my drift boat. I have been doing this for awhile. I was warned not to do that, but of course I didn't listen. After I got to the lake and fished off the bank for a half hour I went to grab my other rod. It wasn't in the holder. Panic is an understatement. I drove all the way home re-tracing my foot steps, no luck. Since my day was ruined anyways, I went back fishing. To top things off, I couldn't buy a fish. In fact the only hit I got was when I first got there on my first cast. I don't know what my bright orange slip-strike indicator represents, but I watched a fish take it without any hesitation. My son ended up catching a 7 lb sucker on a jig head wooly bugger.
Well, anyways, if any one has seen a $500 mistake sitting along the highway, please let me know.

That is a major stomach punch! Sorry to hear that. What highway were you on?

OMG! That surely bites. I dropped a rod and reel and it was like slow motion watching it sink. Even tried big heavy flies to get it back, but I do think a fish had it and that is why fell off my boat. Rod was $600, Reel, $300, and about $100 line...I feel your pain!!!!! Oh, it is at a lake I frequent...still hoping.

I used to let a friend borrow my equipment whenever he wanted to go fishing with me. After the second rod that he lost the top half of I decided it was time for him to bring his own gear. Didn't offer to pay for either and they were very nice rods.
Sorry to hear about the bad luck.

I feel your pain. A couple years ago a willow on the Teton river yanked my orvis T3 out of the boat and I wasn't able to recover it. It stung for quite a while and I still miss that rod but I learned my lesson about being more cautious with my equipment. Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

I was on Hwy 39 west of Blackfoot. The good thing about all this is I will be able to upgrade. I just have to convince the boss that it was all planned.[
