I decided to start fishing again after having not done it since I was a teenager many years ago. I bought a Dawia Exceler baitcasting combo. I am having a problem with getting the line on it. I cannot reel in. I don't know what the problem is, but nothing happens to bring in the line when I turn the handle. I can also only move it one direction. It all seems idiot proof except it didn't plan for me apparently. Doh!
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like you have a malfunctioning reel. When you turn the handle, the spool should roll and the level wind should move left to right.

I agree with Tman. Bring it back.

Thanks for your help. After the good reviews it got, figures I'd get the dud. :p
Hopefully Cabela's can get me another one quick.

Clamster,
try tighting your star drag. Most reels purchased have the drag loose.

also make sure the line is very tight on the reel spool. Alot of people new to fishing loop their line around the spool and tie a knot and the line isn't tight enough, so when they reel it the line just spins on the spool and doesn't wind onto it.

Before taking it back, use the sugestions of the previous two replies.
ajusting the star drag is the first as sugested above,
and there is a forward and backwards way to tie the line to the spool.
I am sure you know this, but in the case others experience line not winding up on the barrol as the barrol spins.
guide the line though the spinnerett guide then over the top of the spool and it will come out the bottom, guide the line back though the spinnerett guide.
tie a slip knott then pull the line untill it is snug against the barrol, one or two cranks the line should tighten up on it self and draw the line in. If the line dosnt, the spool may be spinning in the oposite direction, in that rare case, snip the line and follow the instructions above and with the exception of going from the bottom of the barrol over the top and finish as described above.
Bait casting reels are the more difficult of the two types of reels to learn and master, If you are didicated to learning, pick up the manual and read it, learn settings, how to ajust the spindle for casting, and drag settings.
If you dont want to invest the time in to learning bait casters, Spin casters are almost idiot proof.
