Back when I used to fish paddock, the road in was one rough mother. We would always stop at least twice on the way in to tighten the clamps on the little outboard motor. One time we looked back and the motor was gone. When we stopped and went bac to look, the motor had come loose, bounced up and ended up inside of the boat.
We caught crappie, punkinseeds, nice sized bullhead catfish, and some darn good bass in paddock.
That was before it dried up pretty bad a few years in a row. It would be nice to see that reservour come back...

Paddock was a fantastic fishery for bass and large crappie back in the day but has been in rough shape for several years now. I went there two years ago and it was a disapointing mudhole. I'm not going back there until I hear some good reports because that road sucks.

Crappieslayer isn't kidding about the road back when Paddock really produced. I went in there one hot summer day, and as I arrived at the res. I noticed my trailere doing weird things. Well, it just plain cracked in two. Kali and found a large stick, and "splintered" it with lots of rope. that was one long trip back to Boise! I swear that road inflicted some kind of damage each trip. Too bad it isn't the fishery it once was. I have heard the ranchers up there are glad it isn't. Mike

As I understand the ranchers hold control over the water rights and as such will think nothing of draining it dry to suit their needs, as has been done over several years. Under those circumstances it doesn't make much sense for F&G to invest our license revenue and other funds on something that can be whipped out by ranchers.
When I moved to Boise in 1990 Paddock Res. was listed as the state's premier crappy fishery Didn't take very long for extended drought and the ranchers to destroy that claim.
I used to hunt and fish the area. Again, a rancher [Sollen - sp?] pretty much blew it for hunters. Besides his acreage, he held permits to alot of federal acreage. He initially sold a limited number of "hunting permits" allowing acess to that acreage. Eventually he changed to fewer permits at much more costly fees that ultimately priced me and several friends out of the area.

I went out there last fall and you couldn't get to the water with a boat due to the mud. There was basically just a channel between the north end and the dam. We drove down a rough rough rough road to get to the dam. We ended up catching a couple hundred crappie in a couple hours. A lot of them were in the 12-15 inch range. We also caught a few of the biggest bluegills I have ever seen, almost as big as the crappie and twice as thick. Caught a few bass in around 10 inches or so.
Found tons of tackle in the rocks.
