Has anyone ever signed up for the North American fishing club. I got this thing in the mail asking if I wanted to sign up and they send you stuff to try out and you get to keep it. Its like 30 for three years and you get some sign up stuff for free. Just wondering if its worth it?

I have never signed up, but they do send me their mag and some free hooks now and then. I dont think it is a "bad" org, but I would not bet on receiving tons of products for testing as they claim. I enjoy their mag and the hooks, but I would not personally sign up for it. I see that they offer some bobbers for signing up now..$30= 3 years of mag's, free bobbers, and hooks now and then....not too bad, its just not for me.

I signed up, I was offered $12 for a year.
It isn't bad, nothing as fantastic as they make it seem but then again nothing is ever that way.
If you DO sign up, just be wary as they will send you free gifts and then also send these books or videos for you to "try" and then if you don't mail it back within 14 days they charge you.
Aside from that it isn't bad. I have yet to receive anything to product test, but we'll see if that happens. I have received free hooks, sinkers, slip bobbers, a keychain, an iron on patch, 1 magazine, and some 12 lb test line (300 ft). And they do have some neat articles. Mostly it is about them partnering with a bunch of places and providing discounts on merchandise. But they have tips and tricks sections, and other things that are neat to read every now and then

They sent me a book on walleye fishing and sent me a bill for it. I never ordered the book so I never paid the bill for it. They don't send me books anymore [laugh]. I got a screamin' deal on a lifetime membership and I enjoy reading the articles. A lot of the articles about bass fishing are based on the south east water and not the west but it's entertaining.
I've never bothered with the free tackle stuff.

i tried it years ago was ok but not great, the membership pretty much paid for the stuff i was sent to "test"

I bought the Lifetime Membership about 12 years ago and got a nice softsided tackle box and decent raingear. I've still NEVER tried out free gear though. Like fish4fun said, the magazine is pretty unspecific for our area, but still entertaining to read. About like In-Fisherman.

Stay clear from these crooks! Signed up for a magazine, then started getting all kinds of things by mail, and took six calls to them to get them to stop! And they still want money for a stupid coin collection that I sent back to them months ago. It seems it may take an act of congress to get through to them .

I have been a "member" since 1997. the fishing articles are geared more for the south east for the most part, where i think they excel is information about tactics and techniques that will work anywhere. I send back the stuff i get that I do not "order" books/videos/gear. If you go to the website and fill out the "feild test application" they will send you free lures/equipment and you just need to test it and make a report on it. I do it all online and with my email and it is pretty efficient. I end up testing about 3 or 4 items a year but the key is to fill out the request form that you WANT to test free gear. It is new items not available in the stores yet, and its for the most part pretty good stuff. I just finished up and eval on a new wake bait that runs 6 inches to a foot deep designed for walleye/bass that is pretty good, i think the field test report was in the last issue, although i forget what it was named, but it has a pretty sweet action and it says the retail price is around 10 bucks. thats almost a whole years worth of "membership dues" right there. the last time I signed up and sent them a check was a coupel years ago for 35 bucks for 3 years and a "bonus" 24 months for early re-subscribing. so 5 years for 35 bucks isnt bad. for the most part, i like the tactics and all especially for the ice fishing, they focus pretty heavily on perch/crappie/trout through the ice which is very applicable here, even some walleye action on the hard stuff. i think they have alot of walleye articles, and a ton of bass, which does not interest me dont like the taste.
If you manage the membership and call them from the get go and "opt-out" of special promotions they will not and can not send you stuff you dont want like one of the old CD music clubs. then maintain the field test stuff and i bet every year I average about 80-100 bucks worth of free stuff for testing it out and reporting it. you can not choose what you test, they select you based on your fishing habits which you indicate when you fill out a form, so the gear you get will "evolve" with your habits. I have not tested anything of value over 100 bucks yet, but hey every item they "give" me is an item i dont have to pay for.
try it out, they have a money back satisfaction gaurantee that if you are unhappy with the "club" for any reason they will give you a full refund of your unused dues, and a 100% back within your first year.
check it out, what have you got to lose... I love Steve Pennaz.

For just the magazine, $12 a year is pretty decent. I've gotten a free lure, spool of line, fillet knife, some hooks that you don't actually have to tie a knot to attach to your line, and a rechargeable pack light that rolls up into your backpack or where ever. They do send me offers for the lifetime membership all the time, but I haven't decided to do that yet. Overall it's not bad. As was said, just manage it, and it ends up being a pretty good deal.

I have been a Life member since 1995. Magazine is pretty decent. Purchased a a few books but not all. Good reading. Have field tested a few items. But you do have to fill out there field test request and report forms. Learner a lot from them. Been trophy lifemember for a couple of years now.
