SALISBURY, N.C. - The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to High Rock Lake June 25 for the fourth of five stops in the North Carolina Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.
"I love High Rock Lake," said Snickers Peanut Butter Squared pro Chris Baumgardner of Gastonia, N.C. "There is going to be a ton of fish caught at this tournament. It's going to be a lot of fun.
"There should be a good morning bite going on," Baumgarder went on to say. "Topwater fishing with Pop-Rs and buzzbaits in about 10 to 15 feet of water should be really good. In the afternoon anglers might want to target docks in shallower water with jigs or worms.
According to Baumgardner the lake is typically stained and keeps the bass pretty shallow. He recommends that anglers stay shallow and fish no deeper than 15 feet.
Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Tamarac Marina & Campground located at 9120 Bringle Ferry Road in Salisbury, N.C. Takeoff is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The High Rock Lake BFL tournament is being hosted by the Rowan County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing - the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
