Full Version: Lucky Peak Vs. Strike for trout next week

Got the elusive day off next week. Want to take my new kayak out and try some reservoir fly fishing for trout.

Which would you head to? I'm not necessarily after monsters, I'd just like to catch enough to keep me occupied.

Thoughts from folks who've fished either recently?

I haven't fished either lately, but I would probably decide according to wind speed and direction. Check the weather and if necessary choose a cove or water that is more protected from the wind than the main body of CJ. It is really ugly in the wind!

Two other thoughts you might consider: Magic, and Horsethief. They both have been producing. Mike

Be aware that Lucky Peak will have a lot more pleasure boating traffic than Strike. If it's a nice day, there will be water skiers, people on jetskis, and other assorted craft tearing up and down the reservoir unless you go early and are off the water by 10 AM. Nothing can ruin your day in a kayak quicker than people going too fast getting too close.

If you go to lucky peak, go to the far end just below the arrowrock dam. Lots of trout have been caught in that area and it is protected from the wind. Not many skiiers will come down that far and if they do it is just to turn around. You can also catch smallmouth there also.
fish in the area just before the do not go past this point markers...

Thanks for the input, guys. Maybe I ought to look elsewhere. I'm trying not to have to drive more than a couple hours each way so drive time doesn't eat up my fishing day. Any thoughts on Anderson?

Heard that Little Camas is producing planter-sized rainbows with a few holdovers. Great body of water for your type of craft. One thing is for sure, you'll not have any traffic problems on the reservoir!! Mike
