I just got my first boat and want to get into some bass, I have never fished pineview from a boat. Not looking for secret spots or anything just looking for some pointers. Would pineview be worth it or would mantua be better? Ill be able to hit either until friday then I got national guard drill for the weekend.(bummer) I hit willard today after wipers and smallies but couldnt get that darn skunk away from me. Any advice is good advice as far as im concerned. Thanks

Congrats on the boat. Good times ahead!
I don't have a lot of experience with Pineview, there are others that know it much better.
Mantua - from what Chickendude was saying - seems like the bass and bluegills are starting to appreciate the warmer weather.

I'd suggest early morning (0-dark thirty) would be your best time, or toward dusk. If you launch and head across the lake to the east side, and work the shores from the knoll - there's lots of submerged brush and weeds where the fishes will bed up. We worked our way north last year and did well on a few trips. Up towards the north end of the lake too - you can get right on top of the beds and see the fish. They get pretty stubborn during spawning time too, so don't be surprised if they exhibit some lockjaw to your offerings!
worms, plastics, grubs, reapers. if you rig it weedless you'll spend less time fighting the goo monster and snags.

If weather/time permit - I may be down there this afternoon.
I've never fished Pineview, but I've done okay at Mantua for bass. Right now I would look for flooded trees and other cover. Try throwing plastics such as flukes into the cover. Just let it sink on a semi slack line while keeping a close watch on it for any movement of the line. If it moves tighten up and set the hook. If nothing takes it on the initial fall, give it a couple of twitches and then let if die again. At dusk or on overcast days, they can be more active and you can get some explosive strikes walking the dog with the fluke.

For Pineview basically any submerged brush (and there is a ton of it) will hold smallies right now. Fish Maniac salt sticks up tight to the brush. I like to fish them whacky, and the changeable craw pattern seems to be best for me up there. Also, dark green, brown, and smoke colored tubes fished weedless in the same areas will produce fish.

For pineview and mantua I have had huge success with black and purple flake senkos hooked on a number 4-6 owner hook. Not the weedless hooks. In mantua bassically pitch, twitch, jig, cast then anywhere you can. In pineview rig em like this.

main line- to the hook- with a tag end with a sinker.

basic diagram --- is line and J is the hook and 8 is the sinker

--------j----------8 basically a dropshot rig. Hit the rocky walls in the narrows for big! smallmouth.

If you need more info or pics PM me I have fished both forever with big success

Good Luck and tight lines!

On the rig for Pineview, do you hook the Senko wacky or in the head?

Mantua: get there before the power-crowd starts zipping around in daddy's boats and watch out for the water skiers. Like Coyote said, O' dark thirty.

Best advice anyone can give you.
