I've heard people talk about those cichlids in sunset pond and at the wash that look like peacock bass, well I think this is one or a hybrid between one and a bluegill - What do you think? Is this a true blue-gill and I'm just havin some serious wishful thinking? But look what i caught him on, a full size senko!! I was shocked I thought for sure it was a bass, he was pretty bold - This was at the wash btw

[cool]He looks like a very aggresive bluegill. For him to attack such a large bait he was either hungry or guarding a nest.

Just looks like a dark bluegill to me.. the dark vertical stripes are classic bluegill. I have caught bluegill varying in color depending on the water the come from..

I'm going to defend that as a GREEN SUNFISH (Lepomis cyanellus)...
and a decent sized one, at that.
(ok, I had a bunch of pics, but they wont show up for some reason. Google green sunfish)
Note the brightly colored margin on the edge of the fins, tail and gill spot. Large mouth for their size and super aggressive.

Yup, definitely a green sunfish. Caught em all the time when I was growing up in Colorado. None that big though. They hybridize with bluegill a lot. [inline "Giant Green Sunfish.jpg"]

That's the one! I remember the stand-out white lining on the fins - I'm gonna try some diff methods when I fish bluegills and sunfish now after he hit that senko

damn those things have huge mouths for their size.
