I just returned from a two day trip at Starvation. It was my first of the year. A close friend had invited me to go fishing with him at some bass ponds several miles northeast of Duchesne. He had fished the ponds many times in the past and enjoyed the experience tremendously. We decided to do some fishing at Starvation before and after our bass fishing.
We arrived at Starvation a little after 9 am on June 22nd. We launched the boat and fished for about five hours. I caught five walleye, one chub, and two nice trout. Theo caught one walleye and one chub.
In the afternoon we traveled to the bass ponds and did some bass fishing. We fished with top-water lures and caught fish until it started to get dark. We released all of the fish we caught.
Theo had made arrangements for us to stay at an old resort area. He knew the caretaker who provided the unit for us without cost. The unit was very liveable, but terribly "run down" and dirty. The largest bass pond was in the backyard of our unit. We fished that pond on Wednesday afternoon/evening.
The next morning (June 23rd) we fished the bass ponds again until the bass quit biting. This time we caught our fish on tube jigs. We had a great time! After our bass fishing we left for Starvation again. We arrived there sometime after 10 am. We fished for a few hours. I fished for the walleye using a bottom bouncer and a crawler rig but caught nothing but trout. Theo fished for the trout. I caught two trout and he caught one. We both hooked trout on a fairly consistent basis while we were there. However, they would jump into the air as soon as they were hooked and kept jumping until they broke free of the hooks. The trout were large, they fought hard, and they were extremely fun to catch. Starvation has become a great trout fishery.
To my surprise we never caught a perch, and we didn't see any caught by anyone else.
The next time I fish Starvation it will be in my float tube. I think I might have caught more walleye in the tube, and I think I would have been able to fight the trout with greater success. I need to contact the TubeDude and see if we can set up another one of the great Starvation fishing trips we have shared together over the past years.

[#0000ff]I guess it's okay if you beat me to Starvation this year. Glad you got some of your favorite walleyes. Those trout are all growed up now and they have gotten kinda mean. Gotta use good hooks, good line, good knots and set your drag right. [/#0000ff]

I fishd those granida park ponds many times when my good freind owned the ranch. There are some good bass in some of those lakes, The one there by the lodge was not the best by the way. However I understand the new owners have let it run down a bit. Sad to see, It was an excellant fishing area before.

I could tell that they were great units at one time. I really enjoyed fishing the ponds. The fishing was great and the environment was beautiful.

Are these ponds public?
I'm heading over to Starvation next week, and if location is something you guys can share, I would love to spend a half day over by the ponds.
Would that be something you can share? I'm total C&R for bass.

No. The ponds are private ponds.

Thanks for the nice informative post. Sounds like you had a good outing, good variety. Starvation seems like a fun water.

I love a good topwater action! Used to do lots of poppers for bass as a kid. Kewl kewl.
