Oh man that sounds fun. If you need/want some company let me know.

For the best advice you'll need to tell us what you're working with i.e. down riggers, leaded line, etc.

Yes. Let us know what you got to work with. I recomend lead core, and 2 other spinning rods for bait fishing and or casting. Let us know if you are going to try some night fishing as well.

As has been stated by others, please provide more details on what tackle you will have available. I will give you some general advise though. One common mistake that many new boat anglers make (I definitely made this mistake) is to fish further from shore than they should. Most of the fish at Strawberry and many other bodies of water will be found close to shore.

Definitely what kentfnsl says! Stick close to the shore. I bought my first boat last year about this time and the maiden voyage of the Invader was at strawberry. We didn't stick close to shore and the only thing we caught was a bad case of lobster skin. Ouch!

Since then, I have had many very good adventures there. We generally have really good success using leaded line with either a silver and black CD-5 or 7 rapala or if you can afford to buy a couple of Lucky Strikes, get either the blue and white aurora, the green and white bevy shad or the ghost rainbow trout. Troll fairly fast i.e. from 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 mph. The leaded line will help but it is not a necessity.

We will also anchor up and throw some rainbow jigs with some crawler jammed inside them with good success.

Hope this helps and have fun.

Lucky Craft not Lucky Strike, either way it's still a hurtin' on the wallet [Wink]. Curious to know what your fishing methods are going to be. I learned a lot from a member on here that I haven't seen around for awhile, he taught me how to jig for them even though he was too polite to tell me I was fishing in the wrong spot lol. I eventually figured it out but I only fish up there in the fall but the same techniques should still work.

Ha! Too bad lucky craft's don't come in packs of twenty for what they charge. Hmmm....troll some lucky strikes??? I've done worse.

On Monday (6/27) we caught less fish on the Strawberry side (the Meadows) than the Soldier Creek side. Currently it seems that the bigger fish are located on the Strawberry side vs. the Soldier Creek side. In other words:

Soldier Creek = 10-14" rainbows
Strawberry = cutthroat

We were targeting kokes, but the rainbows keep interfering. We used leadcore line with squids and dodgers. Good luck!
