so the plan is to meet on the far side of the reservoir (opposite side of the highway) around 1:00 or earlier if you feel like it. I'm talking about the area thats about a mile or so after you cross the bridge where the river dumps in to the reservoir and you hang a right. There is a little pullout to park at and a huge flat there. Should be a good time.

It was a learning process for me today. The weather was not favorable for flyfishing. The wind was blowing the water was really muddy despite that I still hooked up three times. I was using too light of leader and broke off twice. On the third time a big one rapped me around a rock and snapped me off. It was really exciting and I can see why people pursue carp with the fly.
I know I will try it again in the future.
It was great to meet flyfishingfool and jeremypeace. Jeremy's kids looked like they were having fun hauling in the car. flyfishingfool was teaching me the ropes and had a pretty good day in bad weather landing several nice carp.

It was great meeting and fishing with you guys today. Conditions definitely could have been a lot better. We'll have to get back out again when the water clears up a little and the wind isn't blowing 30 mph +. Here are a couple pictures from the day.

Those were nice sized carp. I didn't know if you would catch any with that hurricane blowing yesterday.
We caught ones about like that at the derby in Oneida last week. I thought they were nice sized, too, until I saw those 20 pounders from the other team, and wasn't so excited after that!. They looked like tuna! I do know there are some bigger carp in Alexander. There were about 40 or so tossed up on the bank that size or bigger two weeks ago when I went to the Marina to scout things out. Plus, my Humminbird FF was set to only alarm on "big" fish signals, and with us catching 6-8 lb carp in Oneida, it wouldn't alert us, but the week before in Alexander when they weren't biting, it would alarm on and off all day. I don't know how big a "big" fish is to a fishfinder, but when one 26-30" long won't set it off, it makes you wonder. I hope to hit some of those monster carp in Alex before the summer is up! Good job, guys.

the biggest carp i have scene in Alexander are over around the inlet area on those flats and over by the bird box my personal biggest was over by the bird box was 19 lbs on a scale i don't trust much it may have been bigger but im going by what the scale said!!! there are some very very big carp out there!!! a friend of mine was fishing over by he bridge with bacon soaked in chicken blood and he tied into a monster carp that broke his 50lbs test line like it was nothing when it decided to just take off it was pretty big!!!! never fully scene it just shadow in the water and broken line!!! but there in that place i bet there is a state record easy in there many state records!!! and this is the time of year to target the big ones they are spawning right now in full force running super shallow!!! best times i know of for carp out at Alexander are around noon tell 2pm then they die off then pick up again around 6 tell around 9pm at least in all my experience and the best bait to get one is a worm nothing beats the worm out on Alexander for carp!!!!with a 0/2 hook a single split shot with a sliding barrel weight basicly rig for catfish!!!!

Nice work! I am amazed you guys were able to fish at all in that wind!

Is it fishable from the bank or do you need a boat to get to the best areas?

Bank is very accesible and great fishing

like mentiond above the whole res is accesibalbe by bank well except on otherside next to dam unless you boat or float over to it!!! and the is great like said already!!! i cant help much if your fly fishing but if you are throwing bait use worms they are working great right now!!! on a cat fish rig
