Hit Pelican for a few hours yesterday morning. Bass fishing has still been pretty good, but the true hogs that are lurking in there have still eluded me. Anyone want to share their secrets ?? :-))
Spinner baits and pitching senco's into pockets in the dense reeds was what produced the best. There was some surface action going on out away from the reed beds. Looked like they were coming up after a small Dragon fly. I fly fished with a couple of big dry's and poppers but that didn't produce. Did get an idea for a grizzly pattern that might do it next time though.
If you plan to fish Pelican, bring your bug spray.. Mosquitos are pretty thick right now. Last two times I have been there, it has been quiet as far as number of fishermen, but then I don't go during the weekend.. Good luck!!
