This really should be TWK's post since we went in his boat but he's crying a river about not catching any TARP" s today, so somebody has to do it. Here goes. We started at daylight and decided to head upriver to start the day. We hit a popular dock first off and found some fairly active fish but only managed 7 keepers and that actually was the most we caught from any one spot the rest of the trip. We worked our way on upriver and fished everything. We hit bluffs, deep trees, docks, rocks and we really caught fish at most of our stops, just not many. We never found that big, active school. But we made up for it in the quality of the fish. TWK had several fish at 13" plus and I managed to pull off a TARP crappie trifecta. The first was 14" and was my first tarp white crappie in a long while. The other two were black crappie and measured 14" and 14.5". They all came from different types of structure, one on a deep tree, one on a dock and the last on a bluff. Other than the docks, where we used a 32nd head, we stayed with the 16th head and mostly threw BG's in Ghastly Minnow and Outlaw Special. It varied a bit of course but most fish came on around a 10 to 12 count "average". We ended the day early at around 2:30 because somebody's trolling motor battery gave out but we still managed 52 keeper crappie. It was tough fishing and slow at times but I had a blast and consider the day a great success. TWK, thanks for taking me out while I'm boatless. I got the lucky bites today but I'm not gonna holler too loud because I know how fast it can turn around on you. Til' next time.
