We had company from California this weekend. I took their little girl to Mantua when they were here two years ago and she caught fish till she got too tired, and has been wanting to go back ever since.

They got in late Thursday so we got started late Friday. I was really surprised at how few people were on the lake, thought it would be crowed for the holiday weekend. Didn't really pay attention to water temperature beyond it was in the 70's.

Unfortunately I could never get her on consistent fish and I was mainly catching what seemed to be cruisers on a Blade Dancer with a green/sparkle grub, several decent bluegill and a small bass. At least I got to try out my new waterproof camera.

Turned everything loose after the bass promised to let me catch him again every year.

Sorry to hear you struggled to make her day.

Been out there the past couple of days. Had great luck scouting the north and northeast shore lines. Bluegill, perch, bass. Even found spawning beds for the bluegill and had great fun coaxing the big, fat ones to take my lure. (All are still in the lake, BTW.)

Managed to pull out a 16" 2lb 4oz largemouth, too. That's the biggest one I've caught in there personally (in the 11 months I've been fishing it, for what that's worth).

Between Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, I easily caught 120 or more fish...
