Was up in Ashton to meet some family today. Took off a little early to check the river. Only got about 1 hour on it just up from the bridge about 400 yds, but managed one nice size rainbow. It was about 16" range and fat. There were fish jumping all over, just mocking me! Of course I'd only brought my spinning rod and some spinners and rapalas. I think a gray drake imitation would have been the ticket based on the bug hatch going on. The water was only a tough higher than normal, but pretty clear. Fishing should be pretty good now. Oh, also there were tons of boats out today!

I headed up to Ashton for a couple of hours this afternoon. There was a prolific drake hatch coming off the entire time we were there (4:00-6:00) and there was a pretty good caddis hatch coming off at the same time. There were a few fish rising, but not quite the numbers that I would have expected based on the number of bugs on the water.
There were a LOT of people out. Five or six drift boats came by and there must have been 10 people fishing in waders within eye shot! Out of all the people our there, I only saw three fish caught, and one of those was caught by an osprey.
We tried throwing different Adam's patterns at them but couldn't get any to play. I didn't try any caddis patterns because of time, but I wish I had. All in all, it was a classic day on the Henry's Fork---picky fish!

Thanks for your input. Sounds like they are well fed subsurface. I bet the only thing they would take would be nymphs and maybe emergers.
