to see so many people out there just making waves not to mention the jet skiers that think its cool to go back and forth about 10 feet away from you a few hundred times and then the supposed adults that are supose to set a good example for there youth driving there boats and throwing a huge wave right at some one fishing from the shore and breaking there brand new crawdad net against the rocks i very upset and if that person is some one on this site and they see it i swear if i ever catch you on the shore ima break you!!! hope they hit one of the many boulders out there and capsize there boats!!!!

Why I understand your rant i also see the boaters side to bad some lakes arnt set aside for just fishing. A good potion of there registration pay for docks and upkeep at the boat ramps. somtimes it better to just stay away from the area jet skis and ski boats use sense they dont have to common courtesy to give you room to enjoy your sport. But i wouldn't wish what you have on anyone. why not get a hull number and report them as a reckless boater that destroyed some of your property ?

i tried to stay away from them but they kept coming closer to me!!! like they were trying to show off which is probably what they were doing!! the least they could do is go recreational some where else where people don't fish because there are to many boaters/jet-skiers!! like twin lakes or devils creek or Glendale!!!! There has to be some give on both sides. There are boating rules though, and if they are too close take a picture of their boat and number and send it in.
Sometimes just the fact that they see you taking a picture or even just getting a camera out can make them change their attitude real quick. They know the rules. It isn't ignorance of the laws. It is ignorance of common courtesy. Some think it is funny to harass people fishing etc.

Two words. WRIST ROCKET.... I have had to tame a few boaters and jet skiers before. We used to fish from the bank above Johns Hole bridge in Idaho Falls and the boaters and jet skiers would once in awhile get outta control. Once you pull out the wrist rocket and launch a few rocks they generally leave the area..
I do agree there must be give and take, but sometimes when they buzz the fishing hole several times and see you getting more and more irritated you do what you gotta do....

woe is you that you have to share the lake. time to do some searching and find other lakes to fish. i do how ever feel your pain on glendale, but when that happens i fish one of the other 200 lakes in that area

Where you by any chance jumping up and down, waving your arms, and screaming at them? I could see them getting lots of pleasure egging you on if you were.
Take a minute and consider that you are outside by a beautiful lake and not in an office in New York City or somewhere. Not bad at all.

I think the bigger issue here isn't necessarily whether they are harassing fishermen or not, it's the issue of safe boating. The maneuvers described don't sound exactly safe. This should be foremost on peoples minds after the accident at Ririe this week.

Sometimes it's fun to try to catch boats and jet skis, especially when they are really flying by. It's not your fault if your hook lands in their boat as they come screaming by. I have done it with sinkers only before just for the fun of it. No reason you both shouldn't enjoy the game.

This spring I left Salmon for Challis and had just entered the narrower canyon. Two guys steelheading were standing almost on the shoulder. One started his back cast and either hooked my front bumper or I ran over his line. I had scooted over to the left to give them room. I got one glance in the mirror and saw him looking at his busted line. If it was someone on here, I apologize.

You already know my method for getting irresponsible boaters to go away so wont explain, but i will add cabin fever is just getting exhausted all this crappy weather for so long everyone needs to get in the great outdoors to enjoy. Sounds like they were being J A's and I have DWR's phone number programmed for when the other method fails (which it hasn't yet), I say fish one of the quieter reservoirs until everyone has had enough recreating and you can go back to regular scheduled programming.[

this is why i take pictures. i snap a quick pic on my cell phone and if they are being really dangerous, ill call the CO at the ramp. i have had a jet ski buzz me in my little tube (no power) so close i could not only read the registration, but i could read that ther life jacket they were wearing was made by stearns. i took a pic, called the CO, he met me at the ramp looked at the picture, and then (i think) flagged the jet ski'er in. funny you bring this up because leaving willard bay north marina there is a sign statin 5mph or less at 150 feet.

Man and I thought Utah only had those type of idiots, sorry to hear you have them in Idaho as well. I guess I do remember a few years back when the wife and I spent a few days at Anderson Ranch fishing kokanee. Lime Creek was hot that year for kokes and there were 8 or 10 boats working in and out from the bridge to the lake. The power squadron spotted the boats and I guess they thought it would be fun to use us as a slolum course all afternoon. Sure ruined a beautiful day for alot of us. I personally think Hanging is too good for them.[mad]

Couple weeks ago we were bank fishing Henry's, we seemed to be the only people catching anything.
I noticed a small boat with a feller his wife and a bunch of rug rats eyeballing us. A few minutes later he pulls his boat right smack dab where I was casting. I plunked a couple casts within 3 feet of his boat and he didn't get the hint. I had to yell that he was parked right where I had been fishing all morning, and that I would appreciate it if he moved out 50 yards. He took his ever lovin time and finally moved about 30 feet further out.
Really fried my shorts. I'm not sure what I would have done if we had met up on dry land that day.

One time me and my friend Lee was fishing for cats on the west dike of Willard Bay south corner. And we were the only guys fishing that we could see. And no boats on the water.Two jet skies came and started buzzing us and I started throwing rocks and when one came close to hitting one of them they pulled up on bank and was going to try and woop me untill Lee ran up and they took off straight back to the south marina and said they were going to get the police. We just flipped them off. Of course the police never came.

I believe it was Idahoron who wrote last year that he got too close to the bank with his little pontoon and somebody threw a rattlesnake at him. But they weren't even fishing.
I'd be careful about casting at speeding boats. I imagine a loop of mono around a neck would pull pretty tight in a hurry, or a hook buried deep and ripped out would sting a bit.
