Went out with a buddy of mine on his little boat. Hit the water at around 7:45am, took out at 12:30 or so. First couple hours were full of skunk, but around 10:30 another friend who came with me pulled in a 14" or so cutt. I got a little itty bitty bass right after, couldn't have been more than 4" long. Then the chubs started hitting and I got two of them, the trout catching buddy caught one, then it died again.

Went to head back at 11:45 or so and hit a few spots on the way back to the blacktail dock. I decided to ditch the worms (which both I and trout catching buddy were using) and put on a floating crankbait that the kids bought me for Father's Day. Felt a bite on it and set the hook, pulled in an 8" bass. I was stoked to catch something on that lure - it's bright blue on top, silver on the sides and bottom, about 2.5" long, and where I normally fish I couldn't really imagine anything hitting it. I didn't catch anything else, but my friend that took us out who's been having some pretty crappy luck this year managed to get a couple little dink bass to bite his gold cd5.

My wife went up to fish the bank while I was on the boat and pulled in a really skinny cutt almost as soon as she put in. Then three bass a little later on. The first two she caught had bit the same bait on the same cast - both on the same hook at the same time. That's a wild story, haven't ever had that happen to me before, but jaw hooked two little dink bass on the same hook.

I had a ton of fun, enjoyed the day, and getting out on a boat for the first time was definitely a good experience. Would have been if I hadn't caught a thing. The only negative was how many people were out there just joyriding and pushing the little boat we were in all over the place, lol...but I suppose they have a right to be there too.

Well, time to go fishin'.

Good to hear the bass are biting on Ririe. I will find myself there several times this summer I'm sure. If you want to catch more bass look up senko fishing. The bigger ones are tougher to catch but you can catch the small ones all day long with a senko type bait.
