I have not been real happy since the water level of the river was raised 3' this week. I have caught fish, but haven't really figured them out. Today the river was still at 6.04 at the Murphy gauge, but it had dropped about 6" overnight. I launched at 6:30 and quit 5 hours later. I fished about 2 miles of river and landed 23 smallmouth and one channel cat. My final fish was landed directly across from the ramp and was this very nice 20" - 4.25 lb beauty.

This was one of the hardest fighting smallies I have landed for several years and it took quite a while to bring it to the boat. After this photo it was released to pass on its genes. I also had a couple of 16"ers and the rest were 11-15". It was a good way to end the week.

That is a great fish! Nice to end the day on that kind of catch.

Great post!
I burned the candle at both ends and then I cut it in two and lit it on fire with a torch this weekend. I would like to stop in and say hi. I know our busy fishing like I am. One of these days.
I hope the water backs off a bit. I am going to do a float in August for at least 3 days. The river right now is cooking. I bet I could go from Walters ferry to Marsing in one day if I stayed in the current. Ron

The Fluke type baits are not in use now with the water back up 3-4 feet and muddy. That fish was caught on a trout Chatterbait, as were most of the fish on that trip.

I was back on the river today and it had dropped overnight, but was still high and during the time I fished it was going back up. I did OK and caught some nice smallies, but again they were almost all caught on the Chatterbait and a chartreuse and white spinnerbait.
