I think the news is out, but the fish are in the river now. I have a hunch the quota will be met by the end of the week, so if you're going, now's the time.
Fish were hitting the usual stuff- most I saw hooked ate pink and chartreuse combos of corky and yarn with a roe-ball on the hook.
Beware of no-see-ums if you go up higher. I got ate up and didn't know it for a day.

thanks for the update

Go now, theres talk of shutting it down as early as tuesday and I'd also be surprised if it stays open through the weekend. I had good luck fishing plain eggs, no corkie or yarn.

Thanks you guys. This forum is much quicker with the information than our F&G. It may not be too bad for you guys living in Boise but from this end of the state, the situation gives us fits. It is kind of costly to zip over there and get first hand experience. The F&G doesn't always update the harvest numbers in a timely manner. Right now they have only recorded a total of 9 adults caught on the S.F. of the Salmon but when I probed further, I saw an article that verifies what you are saying. They are meeting tomorrow to consider an immediate closure! Interesting that they have time to tell us that and provide hatchery returns but don't have time to update the harvest chart. I guess it is my own fault for becoming so dependent on the data. Maybe I need a sports car to outrun the deadline...

I find the F&G info highly inaccurate and often outdated. Over the years I have learned to watch dam counts and water levels to determine when and where to be fishing. I like to just go and see what happens, learn to adapt your techniques and tactics to different levels of water and you will find yourself being rewarded when the next guy claims the river is unfishable. Make reports don't chase em.......

[frown]From the F&G web page, the call has been made. All adult salmon closes this Wednesday night on the south fork. The upper river will allow fishing for jacks. It was fun this weekend. Fish numbers increased every day. We watched one pod of 40 fish move through a riffle on Sat afternoon. Our group of 4 hooked up with over 50 fish in 2 1/2 days. Lots of big fish in 35-38" range

My son and I both hooked into two this weekend and lost all four. sigh.
They should keep the SF season open longer. Fish came in Friday and it's closed on Wednesday? You guys should boycott next year by not buying tags. ;-) I'll let you know how the fishing was.

Wow I use 15lb line in there and land about 75 %. You guys must be fishing some heavy water.......

My group of 4 never caught a jack over 2 1/2 days of fishing, we did see a couple caught in a run downriver from us. We saw 2 swim through a sand bar too.

I put 13 fish on the bank in two days, lost a few others and only had 1 jack.
