Full Version: Uinta's Recommendation?

Hey Everyone,

Was looking for recommendations for a day trip up to the Uinta's with my 5 year old twins. They're good kids and there will be 2 adults, so hiking in 1/2 a mile or maybe a mile isn't a big deal as long as we are on defined trails.

Any suggestions for a nice place, fairly easy to get to, and some decent fishing? I also have a truck, so if there's a place I can drive into, that would be an option as well.

PM me or reply here if you have any suggestions you would like to share!

Thx!

From my twin....

"We havent fished the Uintas much this year but I can give you one piece of advice. If the report names the lake....dont go, it likely sucks. If the report does not mention the name, try to find it cause the fishing is likely off the hook. When it comes to reading reports about the Uintas, they are usually telling you where not to go. Try Smith and Morehouse (a little closer) or try Whitney Reservoir. Both of those places have healthy populations of Trout. Please take your limit at Smith and Morehouse....so many people release their trout there that we noticed most of the trout are stunted this year (really big heads and tiny bodies). Hope this helps out a little and good luck out there"

I actually concur. I fished Whitney this last week and did well for 10-13 inch tiger trout and bows. Flies behind a bubble did the trick. Worms and marshmallows were OK too.
I fished Smith and Morehouse earlier this year and did OK but the action at Whitney was pretty fast.
Mill Hollow is another reservoir that usually produces consistent fishing and hiking is not necessary.

I'd probable stick to the roadside lakes such as Trial, Lily or Lost off mirror lake hwy with kids that young. They've been stocked heavily with young kids in mine. You could do the short hike to one of the many lake just around that area. Or drive up the road a bit and hike to Fehr Lake. I think it's only about a half mile or so. That's probable far enough to get away from most adults if they're crowding you at the kid's roadside lakes.
