I haven't fished much this year and I haven't catfished in years, so I decided to hit Utah Lake (Lindon) the other night. I got there about 10:00 p.m. Bugs, bugs, and more bugs. It was unbelievable. I had 100% Deet and didn't really get bit, but there were literally thousands swarming all around me. I took a picture with my camera phone of some that swarmed around my lantern. The picture doesn't do it justice.

The minute I arrived I thought about leaving, but I haven't fished, dangit, so I toughed it out. A slight breeze moved some bugs out, many of them seemed to stop flying after an hour or so, and I just generally got used to being pummelled. So I stayed until about 3:00 a.m. I picked up nightcrawlers and some processed chicken liver/blood bait from Walmart on the way down. I fished a few different spots but didn't get any bites until the spot I hit about 1:00 a.m. Caught three channels and missed a couple of others, all on the processed bait. The three channels matches the total I had caught in my life to date. I let them all go, but think I would like to go back and get some to eat. I need to be better prepared.

If you go down at night, be very, very prepared, and don't eat before hand because you'll fill up plenty fast on bugs.

man I can vouch for the bugs this year are insane! I fished there a couple of weeks ago at night and we ended up leaving cause of them. Mostly they aren't mosquito just the annoying [#280050]watch your language - Kent [/#280050]that fly in your ears and mouth does anyone know a spray that will keep them from swarming all over you

Yep my twin and I wear our jackets on hot nights at UL just to reduce the bug traffic on our skin. Long pants would help too. Be prepared to sweat like you never have before while stitting and fishing. People keep telling me Lindon is the place for Kitties. I like Saratoga Marina myself though. Are they still charging for walk-ins?

I paid $2 to walk-in. Two bucks worth of bug hell. I knew there would be bugs so I wore jeans and a long sleeve t-shirt. Shorts and short sleeve shirts would be awful. I thought about getting one of those face mosquito nets for next time. In my younger years I would smoke cigars to keep the bugs away. Probably didn't really help though.
