Finally got on the water tonight with ChooChooSnakeMan. We tried to go on a trip this spring but I could not go. We hit the Chick a little after 4:30 and went out to do a little dropshottin. James wanted a quick lesson and even though it was slow, I think he got what he wanted.
Spot #1. A drop from 16-25 feet or so. I had been doing well on this spot but tonight the bass did not want to play. Only got 1 short LM but we did boat a few cats off this spot. Gave up and went to...
Spot #2. Another drop from 15-25 feet. While we were setting up on the spot we marked the mother load of shad and fish in 25 feet of water or so. Turned out to be mostly yellow stripe and cats but man there were a ton of them. We finally got over to ledge and I boat a nice 2.5 lb LM, a short LM, and a few yellows. James wore out the cats.
Spot #3 was a ledge from 25-45 feet. We ended up getting more cats, 5 whites, a flathead, and I got a keeper spot and a nice 3.5 lb LM. Saw TNDoe up there and she was giving me the business while I boated the 3.5 lber. We did mark a TON of fish in about 50 feet of water but could not get any takers. I am guessing they were buffalo but who knows.
Went back to spot #2 to finish up. Got one more short LM, another cat and a yellow.
Gave up at 8 and headed home. Ended up with 6 largemouth, 1 spot, 7 blue cats, 3 channels, 1 flathead, 5 whites (3 around 2 lbs each) and 3 yellows. 26 fish in 3.5 hours is not terrible but it sure felt slow out there tonight. All fish came on drop shot glue minnows.
Thanks for tagging along James, I enjoyed it.
