I know of one lake in the uintas that have golden trout but it seems to get hit heavy even though access isn't the greatest. Are there any other lakes that have these fish in them? Please send PM's.
Thanks!

I've never encountered heavy fishing over there. If you're looking to fish somewhere besides the handful of lakes and streams in that basin with goldens I'd look above Smith and Morehouse. I can recall about 3 folks in the last several years claiming to have caught or know someone in 1 case that caught a golden trout. I don't have any first hand experience but if you did a search here on BFT or the internet you'd probable find enough details to give you some guidance. Good Luck and remember it's the journey not the destination that counts.

I only know of one lake in that area that has them in if you know others please do tell. The only others that I know of are a long hike.

I think those reports above smith and morehouse are confusing the Golden color of the Cutts that are up there with Golden trout. I have caught a lot of cutts,Grayling,Brooks up there. The other lake in the duchasne dranage that the books say have Golden is loaded with Brook trout. The best Golden fishing I have heard of is in Wyoming.

That's quite possible given there aren't reports of any goldens ever stocked nearby. Haven't seen any pictures from S&M area to confirm what they where. Never know what bucket biologist might have done though.

I would have to agree with what is being said. The cutts up there at S and M have some great colors. Here is a picture of what those brillant colors look like from a cutthroat trout.

Possibly only 2 lakes in Utah have Goldens. Wind River Range probably a better bet.

If there is a fair amount of traffic. I hope they are catching and killing as many of the brookies as possible. That is the only chance of the goldens really having a long term chance.

I agree totally with the release, but I confess, I get a little nervous at all the picture of them OUT of water. I know it is easy to get caught up, but hold your breath while you have them out, and make sure your hands are wet!

That is one good reason to find the less traveled lake so as not to over do it with one lake. I don't want to be the one that kills one of these by catching it too often.

The goldens were last stocked in the '70s. I think if the brookies were going to push them out, they would have by now. However, keeping a limit of those dink brookies helps the fishery.

I agree be careful with those little jewels. That's why I don't have a picture of mine. I didn't grab it with my hands and didn't have a net to hold it in the water while getting the camera ready. At least I know it swam away no worse for wear after its encounter with me. With 30 plus years since stocking goldens bucket biologist had a chance to move some around in that basin so there's more than 2 lakes there alone.

Hmmm...There are a few good golden spots in the Cowboy State. [

You just need a good set of legs and about 5 days to get to them.
