I will be traveling to the Boise area next week and only staying for one night. I was wondering if there are any decent fishing spots that aren't too far from town. I've never fished up that way and figured I may as well throw my rods in just in case. Any help and recommendations would be much appreciated.

I'm dating a girl in Boise and have been there for a weekend here and there, so I had to find a few good fishing spots close to her house.
I've fished Parkcenter pond in Boise, which they stock with trout, used to have bass and a sturgeon until someone poached the sturgeon. Been to Lucky Peak which is east of Boise and should have trout, catfish, and I assume a forage fish of some kind like bluegill or perch. Lake Lowell near Nampa, catfish, bass, carp. And Swan Falls Reservoir on the Snake, just below the dam for Catfish, Bass, Carp, and a guy I know here pulled out a freshwater clam or mussel that had grabbed his hook.
I have also heard there is a little pond on Eagle road near a park or soccer field that they have planed some huge catfish in, and maybe some bass, but haven't made it out to fish it yet.

The river in town is a great place to fish.

That's a good point, when I was there the river was super high so I haven't fished it yet this year.

The river through town is in good shape and is decent fishing - you can find good water just about anywhere. Caddis flies in the morning and evening work well.

a co-worker of mine has been catching trout in the river very easily. the river is near perfect for fishing

This is not a good time to try bank fishing in the local reservoirs. The Boise River is a good suggestion. The Barber area is a good one, if you want to get out of town a ways. My nephew, new to fishing in that he just moved here last year from OK regularly limits out right by the raft access area! He also does well on the opposite side of the river (North) using bait most typically. Don't think the downtown area is not fishable; 18-pound browns have been taken in the BSU area. The only nuisance might be river floaters. Good fishing! Mike

Only if you consider 20 year old girls in bikinis a "nuisance"

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will be staying in downtown, is there an easy access spot near there that anyone would recommend? I would like to try other areas but I am not sure how late I'll be getting into town.

The entire river is easily accesible. You can park in Julia Davis Park, on Americana Blvd, on the south side of the bridge---Ann Morrison Park is located there, and is the common pull-out site for floaters. Thus, the area south of that, including the bridge area I just described, will not have floaters. You can check with a fly fishing store for more info. Mike
