I fish the gorge a few times each summer and primarily go after the kokanee. With the new regulations on kokanee this year I would like to know how to target the rainbows once I've caught a limit of kokes. Any suggestion of places to try or lures to use to get the rainbows would be highly appreciated.

Trolling pop gear and a worn...
Shore power bait any color....

When the water cools in October, go fish the bays with a 1/16 ounce maribou or tube jig. Nice 'bows and a few browns to boot. You can do good from shore, but a tube or 'toon helps.

Pop gear and worm is very good. Troll closer to shore only 20' down. Mornings you can pull your boat into shore and cast powerbait out the back in some of the coves.

That's great advice; when I get my limit of kokes I use the same lures as I do with the kokes. Alot of time when your fishing for kokes you can also find a long area that has a flat, a area that is shallow for a ways, I simply use the same bait I have on for the kokes and find 30 40 feet of water and troll 20ft down. I've picked up some nice bows this way, you'll also pick up some little macs! But if you want to target bows only you can't beat pop gear and a worm....

I have only been up to the Gorge a handful of times but have always done well trolling needle fish around mustang ridge. Last time i went was the 4th of july. Didnt catch anything huge but we did get bows from 15-20" at depths of 25-35ft. The needle fish is by far my favorite lure when trolling for cutts or bows. I have found that the color patterns differ depending on what lake your fishing but I have found one that works well at every lake. PM me if you want to know a must have needle fish pattern.
