I have an old college roommate coming into town (Boise) the weekend before Labor Day. We'd like to go camp, tip back some adult beverages, and hopefully catch a few fish. I've thought about catfish or bass at Brownlee, but wouldn't mind going somewhere a little cooler. Maybe some trout up around Bear Valley or Stanley. Just looking for a nice relaxing spot and a few fish would be a great bonus. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Brian,
If you are interested in some river fishing that weekend, the Middle Fork or North Fork of the Boise should both be pretty good. I haven't been up that way myself to fish yet this year but have always done well in the past. I usually would head up past Idaho City and then over to the N. Fork via the Edna Creek campground turn off. By going in on that road, it's also not too much more driving to head over to the Middle Fork if you wanted to as well. There are definitely a ton of nice primitive camping sites to choose from near both rivers and also along the road on the way in there. Just something else to consider since you're looking for suggestions. Another option to consider is the S. Fork of the Boise up near Featherville. I have been fishing up in that area the past two weekends and now that the water levels have finally dropped down to being wadeable, the fishing has been very good. I've been catching a nice variety of different fish, mostly Whitefish but also a fair number of Rainbows and an occasional Bull trout. There are also numerous nice primitive campsites and campgrounds to choose from in that area. Whatever you end up deciding on, good luck on your trip.
