Caught this beauty up on the North fork last night.
Really put up a fight, thought I was doomed when it went into some rocks.
In the smoker as I type. Dinner is going to be awesome. []

You know, we pay $30 to legally fish for a reason. A beautiful fish is a plus for me, but if it's big enough to be worth filleting or small enough to fit in a pan I keep it and eat it. Kind of a douche move, the smoker comment, no matter how you feel about it...sometimes it's best just to keep your words to yourself.

And yeah, I know you posted it just to stir the pot, which is why this will be my only comment on it.

Beyond the cost of the license, the price of fuel to get there and back more than justifies getting a good meal or two out of the deal. Very nice Brown, congratulations on hooking and landing such a beauty. Brine them up and smoke 'em, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

would it make ya feel better to know that between me and the wife that we released several others that day and that was the only one that we kept?
I like a good size fish for the smoker, and that one was excellent.

You know I am a big fan of releasing a few also but, I sure love the wonderful taste of a fish on my plate. There is room for both ideas and parties to practice their beliefs. We don't have to be at odds with each other. That's why we have catch and release and public waters with general regs and trophy waters too, to try and make everyone happy.

There is nothing wrong with releasing fish for another days fight, or keeping a few for the smoker or frying pan. Trout and bass and bluegill are not in danger of going extinct. Yes, I am fully aware of our native cutthroat's population being diminished by 90% compared to its historical range100 years ago. But then that is why we have the regs on the South Fork of the Snake River, or, the "must kill" Lake Trout regs on Yellowstone Lake or the S. Frk. Snake River for rainbows. Stop throwing stones at each other and celebrate our fraternity of fishermen. Your real enemy is anti fishers, pollution and other factors that could destroy our sport. Trust your wildlife managers to protect the resources and their informed decisions. We are all in this together!

Hey, I am all fired up to smoke some trout this year. I would like to try canning some too, but here is Utah, unless you eat it up, it is a possession. Sucks really.....

That's too bad. It's hard to save a few up for a big family fish fry and great fun with guests.
