Has anybody had any success for crappie at PV this year?
With the water levels being where they are, finding the crappie has been tough all season but I know there are plenty of them within. Can they be found this late in the summer or is it best to wait until the hard deck arrives.
All crappie experts please reply![crazy]

[cool][#0000ff]Crappie don't play nice during the summer. Once they have spawned they usually move out into the open water and suspend at some point between top and bottom over deeper spots. Not unusual to find loose groups of them at 30 feet over 60 feet of water.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The real kicker is that they are feeding mostly on small stuff and not raiding the shoreline for minnows. If you wanna catch them you have to pretend you are ice fishing...with tiny jigs tipped with a bit of worm or meal worm. And feeling the bites on light jigs in deep water...while being bounced around by the power squadron?[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Like walleyes, crappies get more active after about the middle of September...when fall weather cools the water. Then you can find bigger schools in shallower water and they will be hitting larger lures again. By October you can sometimes find good schools holding off the ends of points or cruising at about 15 to 20 feet deep along steep dropoffs. Again, it is a vertical presentation thing but if you are over fish you can usually find action on standard tube jigs and small plastic grubs. And the strikes are a lot more detectable.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]There were a lot of crappies sucked out of Pineview during the big drawdown before major runoff. But only those that were holding on the bottom near the dam. Should be a lot left in the lake and a bit of a reduction on the small ones shouldn't hurt at all.[/#0000ff]
