Went on a couple hour trip up the Mores Creek trib. to target some smallmouth. We hooked a few on flukes and Gulp! minnows. The fish were not coming out of the rocks for strikes. There were coming out of the cold depths up to the baits. We were fishing open water with 30' registering on the sonar and fish would come up to hit the plastics. Nothing on crawdad patterns. We had a 14"+ kokanee chase a 3" pink grub in a different cove. There were fish slurping hoppers and other bugs on the surface. After some probing we discovered they were mainly northern pikeminnow eating the surface bugs. One came in at 14". The kokanee are cruising the shoreline and heading up Mores creek in big numbers. It's a no wake zone that far up so there are no obnoxious jet skis or wakeboard boats messing up the action. There is a cool park and ramp called Robie Creek if you'd like to Google it.

We've picked up a few trout in the 16" range up there , too.

Happy fish slaying to all....

Thanks, that is some great info.

Thanks for the report. Are they really called northern pike minnows or just pike minnows?

It looks like it was 'officially' changed.

Actually, no. If you go to the tips for beginners area, you will see that the site you list still uses "northern pike minnow" in its description.

It's a squaw fish. They can name it whatever they want but to me it is and always will be a squaw fish. [cool]

I live in Robie Creek and fish the Mores Creek arm when I cant get to CJ or Owyhee. Try fishing under the Mores Creek bridge ( when the kids arn't jumping off and swimming ). Throw 3 or 4 inch pumpkin colored grubs against the wall under the bridge. After 3 or 4 fish you'll spook them out. Fish the mountain side of the cove for about 100 yard from the bridge back toward the reservoir. You'll br amazed at the size of some of the small mouths. Try not to be too greedy and only take what you really need. We try to keep some good ones around for later.
Good Luck Idahomike
