So, if you follow the news, this has been a really weird couple of days. I'm curious to hear what your speculations are as to what the reasoning behind wvpd's actions are and wth is going on.....

[cool][#0000ff]GPS tracking system on the rental car Josh used showed he had been to Ely???[/#0000ff]

I grew up in Ely and can tell you that two days with the small number of people they had searching didn't even scratch the surface. Even if all the tunnels and shafts that are more than 100 yd. from easy vehicle access are ruled out (how far can one carry a body unless it's cut into pieces) there are way more than they could have looked at. All over eastern Nevada and western Utah there are open abandoned mines by the hundreds within the mileage range travelled by that rental car. It could take years to cover all the possibilities and with the activity going on to seal these old mines, the right spot may never be found. If that's even what happened to her.

I think that the police had found information leading them to believe that Josh Powell had intimate knowledge of the Ely area, maybe certain mi.es in particular. By announcing their presence in advance and inviting the media along, I think they might have been hoping to flush some kind of reaction out if Josh Powell.
This guy is no dummy though. He hasn't given anything up. I just heard today that he will only meet with the fbi on two conditions: 1- he has his legal council present, and 2- the fbi pays for his lawyer. How can this happen? I don't think I could hardball the fbi like that and get away with it. Couldn't this be considered obstruction?

It's tough to know what all evidence the police have that led them to make that announcement but let's hope they have enough to keep the pressure on the SOB. He'll trip or crack one of these days.
