jim and i had been talking to the fine folks with the Middle Tennessee Crappie Club and decided to fish a tourney with them on tims ford .
since neither one of us had ever fished "the dead sea " before ,i started my map study well in advance. i found lots of good LOOKING spots that on any other lake
should produce pretty well ( inside bends with cover ,road beds and the like ) . i also made a few calls to DK who has fished it before to get some good intel. emoThanks
we decided to head up on friday to do some scouting and pre-fishing , and while i would have been just as happy to do a little camping at the devil's step camp ground ( the big deck on my cobra with the cover on makes a fine and roomy makeshift tent emoTongue ) jim wanted no part of that so he sprung for a hotel for the night emoSmile
we hit the water friday afternoon about 2pm with way points for the lake already in the humminbird and by 7:30 had scouted 12 different spots with only 4 spaaaats and 1 crappie to show for it emoBang.
got back to the devils step ramp to pull out and jim stopped to talk to someone while i waited for him to get the trailer in the water emoScratch after we got loaded up he filled me in on some places that he got out of the fellow he was talking to emoSmile
we met up with david ammonet of the MTCC and his better half for dinner that evening and david offered up his shop to park my boat in for the night . now thats hospitality emoThumbsup
the only problem was that when we went to plug in my boat it seems my on board charger had bit the dust emoDoh well at least it was in a safer place than a motel parking lot .
got up early , picked up the boat and headed down to devils step with about 75% showing on the TM batteries (thankfully it was enough ) and met a dozen or more of the
MTCC members we were fishing against.
we enjoyed some great fellowship with them while we all got ready and put our boats in and at 7am local time it was ON!!

first stop was a bridge that jim had got out of the local at ramp friday evening . sure enough it looked like it was LOADED ..... more fish there than all the spots i scanned combined the day before emoDance .
with in the first few casts i had a fish on emoDance but he was a short black nose emoDoh then jim had one .... short .. and that's how the morning went with one 9" fish after another . emoDoh emoDoh emoDoh 20 or so from that spot . i looked the map over and located another bridge that might hold fish not far away so off we went .
first cast there and jim pulls in a keeper , just over 10" but a keeper emoParty then more short fish and more short fish and THEN jim pulls in a 10-1/2" keeper emoParty
then more short fish and more short fish ..... we left there to go scan some docks we didnt look at on friday but had no luck there and ended up back up at the first bridge to fish in the shade until time to go in . another one of the competitors had the same idea so we shared a bridge pilling catching more shorts and sharing fishing tales till it was time to go to weigh in with our 2 keepers.
out of the 9 boats only 1 managed a 10 fish limit but the rest did get at least 3 or more so no money for us .
after weigh in was done and the money handed out the guys of the MTCC where more than happy not just to share techniques and styles of how they caught fish but locations as well
for the next time jim and decided to venture up to the "dead sea"
it was still a great time and great fun on a lake i had never been on before
thanks jim for getting me to go and thanks to all with the MTCC for putting on a fine tourney
