Today was day one of the float. Thanks Smartweed (Phil) for the help. You were a ton of help. I wish I could have seen you on the river.
We started to fish after a ton of problems getting on the water. We took off and started our float.

We were fishing idahoron style. We were targeting the larger more aggressive fish. We didn't catch anything until the water warmed up to about 73. When it got to 73 it was on.
I started it off with a cookie as TD calls them.

Jacob followed that up with a pig that almost put a permanent bend in his rod.

Then before I could answer back he nails another one.

Then I went on a unanswered cat spree. I caught 8 that were nice fish.

At one point I went over a deep spot. I hooked a BIG fish in that hole. It was the biggest fish I have ever had on that pole. I felt it shake it's head and roll. Then it just spooled me and kicked my a$$.
We kept 6 fish to get friends some fish. One thing I did notice is not all the fish have spawned. We caught two females that were still packing a belly full of eggs. We released the 5 biggest ones. It was a fun trip it was a little too long. We are going to do shorter trips on Wed and Fri. I will keep this trip updated. I hope as the week progresses. Ron

Ron, you must have been slow getting started. I fished out of the Map Rock Ramp from 7-noon. I ran up as far as the Reynolds Creek pool around 10-11:00, and saw one guy drifting downstream in a canoe with pontoons on it, and 2 guys came downstream in a jet boat. I'm glad to hear you sacked them. The weather was a bit hot, but so was the fishing.

Bass fishing was pretty good as well, as my counter showed 31 smallies topped by a 16" fish. The river was up a bit more today, but fishing was very good. I managed 46 smallmouth and a 25" catfish that came out of the reeds to hit my Chatterbait in about 2' of water. You should hammer them the rest of the week, as the fish are very active.

I'm not much into catfishing but that looked like a lot of fun. Good luck the rest of the week.

When we got in the guy in the canoe was just passing us under the bridge. We were hanging on the south side for the most part. I also saw the guys with the table on the boat shooting carp with bows. I also saw a couple of guys fishing. When I was going to the boat launch I saw a boat that I wondered if it was you. We are heading to Swan Falls in the morning. I hope we do well I will report later. Ron

That's a great stretch of river, I grew up fishing from the big eddy by Murphy to Marsing, but most of the time was out Map rock. I have caught literally thousands of Cats and Smallies there.
There used to be only a couple of farms out map rock, just turns my belly to see all the new houses and no trespassing signs out there now.
