My wife wanted to get out again this weekend to try out her new fly rod. Being that she's from Blackfoot, we went over to check out Crystal Springs Pond. When we got there, there were no cars in the parking lot (1st bad sign). We didn't see any fish rising and there were plenty bugs on the surface (2nd bad sign). We threw the canoe in the water and slowly cruised around. You guessed it: we didn't see a single fish! Any one have any insights into what the deal is? Do they no longer stock it? Is it entirely fished out? That used to be a fun family spot...

went there about a week or two ago....same story, no fish rising or jumping and plenty of bug life. did notice a few ppl pulling out a few stockers (about 10 in) over by the spillway (pond side, not the creek). i didnt get to take any, they were hogging up the space and didnt wanna intrude, but did see them using fly.

In the past it has been stocked regularly...but i dnt think they all get fished out...maybe they run down stream....but it has been mostly mediocre for me at best during summer...best during winter with black leaches and not as much moss

We have been a few times this summer. One trip for our 4-1/2 year old grandson to catch his first fish9 he reeled in five). The other trip was for our 5 year old grand daughter to catch her first fish. We have to start a new generation of fisherman and keep the family tradition alive.
The first rip the fish were scattered around the pond. The second trip they were so tightly schooled up that I thought the place was fished out until my son saw the school
feeding on surface flies. We then noticed two blue herons (who eat minnows) and an osprey working the area. The osprey was aggressively feeding and made a spectacular dive at a trout but came up empty handed. That might have been the reason why the trout were grouped together out of protection. Also, at times there is a particular group of workers who descend in larger numbers to fish the spot. This supplements their meager food supply. This could have recently fished the place out.Word seems to get out quickly when a new stocking of fish occurs. I have seen this happen on Rose Ponds also. First come, first catch.
