I heard with pretty good authority that the CW will stay at over 16K cfs at Peck for at least the next month and a half to get to the appropriate pool level on Dworshak Reservoir. This takes up most, if not all, the catch and release season.

I "was" planning on going over the 3rd week in September. Granted the high, cold water will bring the fish up but.....?

Flow at Orofino is pretty high as well..over 2K.

Anyone fish the CW at these flow rates with any success? I've been fishing it for 6 six years and obviously have never seen it this high.

i'm going next weekend
It's only a foot or 2 higher than normal?
Skatin' aught to still be fine.
Pluggin' won't be affected?

A guide and his two daughters got 15 to the boat in Lewiston on Wed. diving red and purple shrimp, according to the Spokesman

Running divers and shrimp is a great way to kill fish in the catch and release section above memorial bridge. If you want to fish shrimp and take fish home fish below the bridge. Skating dries could produce as osprey stated.

I've never boated below Peck, although we're looking at trying the 2 miles above the confluence ~ with the water as warm as it is, are the steelies prime to eat? We usually don't target steelhead before mid to late September. We Skate up until opener in mid October.
We don't use bait until we start keeping a few. Using a hang-back hook really cuts down on the swallowed hook-ups.

Skating is like elk hunting we don't often succeed but what a rush when that huge hole opens up in the river right below you and you have the patience to let that big old bright metalhat take it and turn. Adrenaline pumps and the fly reel sings.
