Hit the Boise Middle Fork on Friday. Perfect wading flows. Had a very productive morning with hopper and stimulator patterns without having to work more than a couple of 10ths of a mile on the river. A mix of rainbow and cutthroat (mostly rainbow) up to about 13 inches or so. This is the healthiest I have seen the river in a few years in terms of numbers and mix of fish. Fish are definitely reproducing nicely. Saw lots of little fry in the side pools. Sorry I have no pics. My waterproof camera bag floated off to fisherman's paradise on my last outing and I am not coordinated enough to trust myself wading with my camera otherwise.

Nice report. Thanks for sharing! How high up do you go on the Middle Fork? I think I have fished in there once a long while back and it was a really pretty area.

We were up a few miles from forest road 376, but before the forest service air strip. We just start look for good water several miles up from the confluence with the north fork and away from any camping areas.

What stretch/s did you fish? I spend quite a bit of time on the Middle Fork of the Boise and have found the fishing dismal the past several years, although it has begun to get better.

I long for the days you could catch 20 to 30 nice trout in a morning and at least two or three 18 to 24 inchers in a day.

Fairly dismal is exactly how I would have described my outings the past few years on the river. Never completely skunked, but hard work for a couple of fish. We were fishing a section between Browns Creek and Roaring River rd. The fish weren't large - the largest ones being in the 13 inch range, but it was a good 20 fish morning and they were all healthy - hard fighting for their size and no hesitation in swimming off after being released. If the water levels can stay up for a couple of years, there should be some good fishing days ahead based on the activity I saw this time. Maybe get back to finding those 18 - 20" fish in a year or two. Would be nice.
