Just want to make sure I'm legally operating my boat in Idaho.

I currently have a boat registered/titled in West Virginia. I've been stationed at Mountain Home AFB for almost a year now and didn't really think anything of getting my boat registered in the state until it was brought up by someone else.

After looking over Idaho's Park and Rec website I came across this:
This is one of the exemptions for a boat to be registered in Idaho.
Vessels properly registered in another state and on Idaho waters for 60 or fewer consecutive days

To me this means if I don't fish 60 straight days in Idaho I'm good. But for the life of me I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't fit this criteria...other than a guide. I'm still required to have the invasive species sticker, I just want to make sure I'm not missing something.

Thoughts?

Personally I think it's just worded funny. If that is the case, I think you'd have a 60 day window after arriving here for your registration to remain valid...pretty sure you need to get a sticker though, right?

I agree. You probably need a sticker after 60 days. You should call them and find out or sure.

Has your West Virgina registration expired . If you have been here for a year , I would expect it has . you probably need to register it here . Curt G.

No registration is up-to-date. Before reading this reg, WV DMV sent me a renewal registration for 2 years for $60. So my boat/trailer is good now until 2013. This is the main reason I don't want to switch my registration/title over if I don't have to.

You live in Idaho and are a resident, and the boat is in YOUR name, you have couple of months after becoming an Idaho resident to license it.
Do you have anyone or anything still in West Virginia.

Just a little FYI, like Idaho fishing and hunting licenses, they are January 1 to Dec. 31st, so is their boat registration (guess they like to keep it really simple).
So, by licensing it now, you will be paying full price plus Invasive Species sticker for four months worth.
I just found this out[mad] the hard way. Drag your feet till January, I say.

Not sure but I have seen exemptions/changes to different rules for anyone in the armed forces in different states for fishing liscenses and stuff. I think there might be a difference regarding this also?

I think if you are in the active duty military you an keep your residency from your home state. When i was in, i kept my idaho plates for five years in california....i think your water vessel registration would fall in the same boat..

Just got the official word from Idaho Parks and Rec. Even though I'm currently living in Idaho, due to the armed forces I'm officially a West Virginia resident (where I pay my taxes). Because of this I'm allowed to boat up to 60 consecutive days before I need to register in Idaho. This isn't 60 TOTAL days in a year but 60 consecutive. I still need the out of state Invasive Species Sticker which is $22.

Seems like a law that would be difficult to enforce, but it is the law.

Seriously! I fish a lot but 60 days in a row, and from a boat?! Not many can claim that.
